Well today's the day and I am struggling to keep the missus off the meat , she is MAD FOR MEAT , and I can't play hide the sausage for more than 10 mins.
In all seriousness I think great idea , in Belgium they have had meat free days for last couple years and livestock do eat a lot of grass and need a lot of farmland to graze on etc.
Personally I don't give 2 hoots for animal rights I just think man would be healthier without meat and we might be able to grow more grain to feed people on the land we can't use.
The countries/people that live the longest eat the least meat and have FAR LESS CANCER. If we didn't smoke then bowel cancer is the next highest and this is SO linked to diet.

| Price of meat nowadays, we've been having meat-free mondays for years. And tuesday - sunday as well.
I love meat, I'm no veggie, but the nearest I get to meat nowadays is a Greggs sausage roll. And that's debatable.

| Trying to get somewhere like back to the topic in hand, I understand the point McCartney is wanting to make about one of the biggest causes of deforestation is clearing land for livestock. And palm oil.
One way of redressing the problem of methane from livestock would be to farm all animals in sealed sheds and capture any farted methane. This methane could be seperated from the air and burned to produce to electricity. Unburned hydrocarbons are worse for the environment than burned ones. This method would not be agreeable to the animal rights lobby as every animal is sacred and needs loving etc etc etc etc.

Nice to see a serious subject reduced to a ridiculous soundbite.
It's hardly about the animal being 'sacred' and 'needing love'. It's about not keeping animals in conditions that constitute cruelty. I would contest that locking animals in a shed, never to see the light of day, is indeed cruel and should not be allowed.
