Brought in the likes of Storton, Ryan, King, Mimi, Milnes, Abdul, Litten and Halton, plus others. I'd say how recruitment was pretty successful.
Probably involved in those years recruitment too.'"
Yeah, in fairness I just looked at the squads we had at the start of 2019 and the start of 2022. Overall, I think most people would say it was a decent upgrade… just looks more coherent. But we did have to go through a pretty sobering 2020 and the unusual circumstances associated with it.

| Quote: MadDogg "Smith seems to have had very mixed results in his first year at his four previous SL clubs. At his first club (Huddersfield) they were relegated in his first year before bouncing back up. At Leeds and Warrington he won trophies in the first year but at Hull KR they finished next to bottom in Year 1.
One thing that is clear though is that Smith has not had a single spell at a SL club where he hasn't achieved relative success at some point. Whilst the manner of the last two defeats has been really poor (and some of the defensive efforts against Salford were just inexcusable), there was always a sense that it would take him a year to make the changes needed for Hull to hopefully start to re-emerge in 2024.'"
I think those mixed year 1 results reflect very mixed circumstances. Very few coaches disrupt SL’s entrenched hierarchy.

Hopefully Smith is the man to turn us around, I'm sure at the end of his first year at Rovers he made big chances, did well signing some young players too and ones from the championship.
'"
His use of available quota spots wasn’t stellar.
He did improve the team’s mental resilience, imo. And left some positives for the new coaches to build on.
Be interesting to see what sort of reaction there is from Hull in the next couple of weeks.'"
That for me is going to be the biggest indication of where the playing squad is at along with what the Coaching team see as acceptable. I don't think any Hull fan is expecting anything at Saints other than 100% effort win, lose or draw but another pitiful effort like we saw on Saturday then St's will more than likely put on a massive score.
I think Smith is still the right guy based on his credentials and previous record at other SL clubs. He certainly changed the trajectory of the 1st team playing squad and laid the foundations that Rovers are now seeing the benefit of.
Everyone knew it was a big job to do but the size of the task ahead for Smith at Hull FC was there for all to see on Saturday. This year is I can see going pretty much the way last season went for Wire & Powell which as long as we see real progress and change particularly in terms of attitude and application from the playing group then that is at least something. With 20 OOC players end of this season unless there is a massive turn over of those then I can't see anything else changing in to next season.

Neither does having Lane on a three year contract but i agree very poor managment at the top

| Quote: Steve0 "Separately Saturdays performance has just completely undermined the whole marketing strategy, at the end of last season we were all completely fed up of the rubbish served up under Hodgson, this season was a "fresh start" new coach, new signings and we were ready to go etc, you could sell passes on that as there was a feel good factor at the club built on by two positive showings in pre season which led to the 15k crowd at the first game and then the win against Leeds...all that work has been undone now. If the season carries on with performances like Saturday, how do you market passes for next season? The fans patience only goes so far "in any kind of weather" only stretches so far...'"
Hodgson has a lot to answer for
All his signings were poor and some less than poor and we now have to live with them whilst on the clubs books

And Taylor on a 5 year contract
And shaul on a contract they didn't actually announce officially which I think was also 3 years?
And Houghton allowing to decide if he took up the extra option of his deal or not, rather than the club making a decision.
We're reaping what we sowed.

| Decisions on quota signings and the players born in hull who are well overated have been huge errors.
Interested whos out of contract, as i honestly would struggle offering any a new deal, squad needs gutting now. An element of ruthlessness needs introducing.
We need a if your not good enough yoyr gone culture.
Not a if your born in hull you get kept culture.

| Wynne gone on loan, doesn't say a length.
Thibk it's the last time we will see him in a Hull shirt though.

| Certainly has potential, but the way some fans ate going on you would think he was Jamie Lyon, his poor attitude has been spoken about before too.
We either trust Smith to get the squad right or we don't, need some tough decisions, maybe this is one of them.

Let's hope so Dave. His tweet seems to prove that he needs to keep quiet and be more professional.

| I'd trust the guy who's won several GF and CC and turned every club he's been at round. He'll have his reasons

Yeah, if that's aimed at the coaching staff that's poor, still a Hull player and paid by the club.

| Looks like the Tweet has been deleted.
Have to trust in TS. He’s been brought in to make big decisions and sort the club out once and for all. He sees the players every day, so need to trust his judgment.
Wasn’t CW hanging around with Reynolds last year? Maybe attitude not right?
