| Even with the quality team/sqaud we had in the early 80s we were still inconsistant, sure we won some trophies but 1 league & 1 challenge cup(of the main trophies) in 5 years at the top wasn't exactly fantastic when you look at the players we had.
I mean we lost the 81/82 championship due to getting battered by Whitehaven away (who finished bottom that year) and also losing to Fulham. Then there's the 82/83 season and the disapointment of losing to Fev (twice that year)
Hull have pretty much had very good support throughout their history and plenty of interest i9n the game but on the field invariably we've lacked that cutting edge that distinguishes the really successful clubs from the 2nd tier who win something every 10 years or so with a good couple of seasons here and there.

| Unusually I find myself agreeing with everything Standee has posted on this thread.
Having supported the club from short trousers to a hip replacement, I have never felt such a disparity between where we are - hoping to finish 8th at best - and where we might reasonably expect to be given our infrastructure and support - at least competing for top four.
We have some players - Briscoe Yeaman O'Meley IMO - who would have merited a place in the team in our successful eras and a good squad of SL standard players but overall our performances on the field rarely inspire confidence that we can even challenge for honours. This is not a reaction to our last 2 defeats but an accumulation of disappointment over the past 4 years.
Unlike others I know I will buy a pass next season as its part of my DNA and I am grateful that I don't have the doubts that fans of such as Wakefield suffer about the off field viability of their club but nonetheless my match day enthusiasm drops year on year.
However I live in hope

Surely this is grounds for an harassment case, you should not have to endure this kind of offence behaviour

| Quote: snerder "There have been those who, whilst not exactly saying they expect FC to be winning silverware, constantly go on about us being a massive club and that we should be at least challenging for trophies.
Last time I looked, we were still in the C.C. and still in contention for the play offs.
The reading on this forum of late has been all doom and gloom. So, before I repair to the garage with the hosepipe, and the Hemlock wine, can someone tell me how we are a 'massive' or even 'big' club. We have never dominated the scene like Wigan, St. Helens or Leeds.'"
I would be 'content' with a 6th-8th finish IF I had any belief what so ever we could beat big sides on the day and get to Old Trafford.
for example Catalans are probably going to finish 5th, but they have beaten sides like Wigan (twice) and Wire and come playoff time their fans can be confident they can mix it with the best, and winning the 2/3 games to get to the Grand Final isn't a ridiculous thought.

Sixth place is not good enough. If we finish 6th it's been another disappointing season.

We need to have faith and support the team...forget about everything else and just support our team! how many will hop on the bandwagon if we do get to wembley? where are they week in week out?! We have a quality side overall and we just seem to be struggling a little but we will be there or thereabouts come the end of the year and if we improve on last years 6th place then the season will have been a better one regardless of what some morons may think.

Looking further ahead the signings we have made already for next year show real potential. we still have a great appeal both nationally and worldwide for decent players! As a team fc are stuttering slightly but we cant win them all. I still say Agar needs to go but i will still support the team 100% regardless because i am fc til i die!

In all my years on this board, this is without doubt the most pointless post I have ever read. Are you Richard Agar?

| Do you know whats depresing? Reading the sad, moaning posts....get alife! It's a product if you like it, don't agree with it watch something else.
The modern game if RL has changed....even the aussie commentators acknowlege that. Forget flair....it's all strict game plans...some better and better executed than others.
Everybody has an opinion.....but 90% maybe even 95% of the posts on here are moaning about something.... Cheer up, there is always someone worse off than u!
I am passionate about Hull FC, and while not always agreeing with what's goes....I remain committed the team. The same goes for the game itself...

cartoons/WB17.gif I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011.
Money doesn't talk it swears, Obscenity who really cares, Propaganda all is phony.
I'm the son and heir of a shyness which is criminally vulgar.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.

Not that old chestnut, it gets trotted out every year about this point in yet another disappointing season. I think most Fc fans would agree that the signing of McKinnon & Heremia is a drop in quality compared to the signing of Fitzgibbon & O'Meley two years ago.
Ironically, the announcement of signings at this point of the season is one of those factors that annoys so many of us. We are constantly being asked to be patience by the club, to ride out the current disappointments, with the promise of "jam tomorrow", but somehow tomorrow never seems to come around for Hull Fc fans and if it does (circa 2005/2006) it has a nasty habit of disappearing quicker than it arrived.
I will say one thing though. As one of the long standing accredited "doom & gloomers" on this forum, I admire your optimism. I'm too old and cynical these days to ever feel like that without any positive evidence to back up those kind of claims. But if it keeps you happy and warm at night then more power to your elbow.

Wow how far from reality could you be. Let me give you an example of why. I have supported the club since 76. I have seen the "glory" years I have also seen the poop we have had to endure as well. I was there with 95000 others in 1980 at Wembley. I have also been there when we have had a few thousand. This current team have everything that they boys of the 80s would have dreamed of. Full time training, excellent salaries (ok no where near what they should get for putting their bodies on the line week in week out for 6 months of the year) but still a good salary giving a decent lifestyle. They have as a body of players delivered far far below their collective potential and for at least 4 seasons now. Yes under Walsh and Casey et al we were poorer results wise, but when you compair the potential of the squads this one has delivered the worst.
I can not as you seem to imply simply walk away and watch another product. The club are not corn flakes, I can't stop getting Kellogs and get a different brand of the same thing, its not possible to support another club. What I can do though is take my cash elsewhere and stop watching the sport full stop. This in my case is close as I have started spending my hard earned on family days (as JR said I should when he went to Friday nights) and I am often spotted at cricket. I have spent less than £100 on HFC this year. That is in real terms a big saving for me and a loss to the club. I have tried to stop moaning as its pointless. The club ain't listening and apathy which was only starting to set in, in February is now widespread and gathering pace week by week.
You state also that the game is about game plans and we should forget flair. Well I guess we forgot flair at least 4 years ago. The trouble is our game plan is either very poor or non existant. Give me a reason for that. Unless your answer mentions poor coaching then you are missing the point again.
Yes there is always someone worst off. One of my best mates is a Wakey fan. Yes they are worst off than us. Don't know if they will be in SL next year or even in some cases in business, BUT to me thats like comparing Waitrose to your local corner shop. We have everything established off the field to be a competative side challenging for honours. Not I might add having a god given right to win everything. That is not reality. Where as we are barely competing against top sides. Last I looked we were 3 points ahead of Wakey on points WON this season. They were out of business and losing players not so long back. That to me is a side like your local shop that is working overtime to stay afloat and making progress. It could be argued they are over achieving. Hull FC the team I will always support can not say that. That is what is frustrating and why we moan. The BOD are satisfied and the coach is the best in the business, the players are 100% committed as they tell us every week in the HDM, so what is going wrong?

| Good reply....and kinda positive!
I wouldn't say I'm off reality tho....
I didn't say we should forget flair....I was implying the game has lost flair, and the modern coach kind of assists in that process as the all the plays are planned.
Agree the ole player of yester year would have lapped the opportunity and probably ended up in the same mould now....as many professional sports persons lose drive with guarranteed payments, multi year contracts.....unlike older methods basic money plus winning bonus. I'm not sugesting we go back to that either.
I don't know the answer, but I do know the modern game is going to need a check and a shake down from top to bottom inc how the RFL and clubs are run...the game almost gladitorial now, tactical chess...not saying that's good or bad but it has and is changing from the game you and I remember.
Rgds & thanx
My initial observation was the amount of moaning and negativity....but hey someone will tell me that's what the forums for!

| The thing that makes it doom and gloom for me is the fact we have decent players, yet they cannot seem to reach their potential. Its like owning a flash car, only to find the engine is a bugger to get tuned up.In the end you just give up and flog it.As much as I love F.C. I am finding it more and more difficult to get any enthusiasm going.I am going to matches these days more out of duty than anything else.
I wish the board would wake up and smell the coffee.
