Wasn't impressed with the new DJ by the way. What a bloody racket.

Quote: Hasbag "Disappointing because he looked decent against Wigan. They struggled to get him to ground and he played big minutes (granted with short 5 minute breaks thrown in).
Anybody who watched last night will now have a very bad opinion of him but didn't see the good stuff he did only 2 weeks earlier. Let himself down big time.'"

If he learns from his stupidity I think he could be a very good player for us. He probably has never played in a game like that before and the occasion got to him. I was surprised he started and the number of minutes he played. The Canterbury fans said he blows out of his ar#e after a couple of minutes.

They ran hard, tackled well, kicked well and had great line speed, we were the polar opposite aside from maybe our defense, especially given we only played about half an hour with a full team.

It was mentioned earlier about struggling to see where our points were coming from and nothings changed to ease that. Brown needs to play 9, he's an international hooker he needs to play there. Smith and Hoy in the halves, did Houghton fail a HIA?

Just like me mate you are getting old!

Thought the light show was impressive though. It went swiftly downhill from there though.

Smith said that as Houghton has failed his HIA he'll miss our next two games - Brown to 9 and Hoy at 6?

I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011. Quote: Marcus's Bicycle "I agree with all of this apart from replacing Smith. He's a proven first team coach who has improved every team he's been in charge of. We've been crying out for someone like him for years.

It's his team now and he needs to be given time to sort out the mess we've had to endure for years. Even in the unlikely event he is sacked I cannot think of anyone else to replace him so early in the season.

The biggest problem for me is the quality of the squad. Without doubt it's the weakest we have for years. Just about all of the new signings are cast offs. Yes, you can say Smith is partly responsible for recruitment but his hands are tied behind his back due to financial constraints.

All I'm asking for is a steady improvement but if Smith cannot achieve that then yes he has to go but only at the end of the season. God knows who will replace him.'"

Agree with this. To sack Smith at this point would simply be counter-productive. Who would be his replacement for starters, there's hardly a long list of potential candidates out there and I suspect if someone was appointed short-term it would likely have zero effect on the situation.

For various reasons, in a lot of differing areas, we have dug ourselves into an almighty hole since around 2018. Sacking Smith is unlikely to make a difference. Think we honestly have no choice but to batten down the hatches and hope that, from somewhere, Smith can somehow get a tune out of this unbalanced squad and give us at least the odd game here and there where we see a least a chink of light.

Obviously, we cannot go on and on losing week after week (sacking him may become unavoidable in that case), but right now I think we simply have no choice but to go on and hope we see at least a modicum of improvement as the year progresses.
It's not going to be very pretty, but we are where we are right now and I'm afraid we are going to have to find some way of battling through, because there isn't an easy fix to the mess the club has engineered all on its own.

(To think this time yesterday I was desperately trying to instil some positivity into myself. Talk about 24 hours making all the difference!!).

I thought it was appalling from Hull and I feel so sorry for the fanbase who turned up in such big numbers again. I remember some of the most terrific RL atmospheres in and around Hull games in 06/07 and 16/17 when they were strong contenders. Particularly good memories of the 2007 playoff game against Wigan - yes for the result but mainly for the noise, energy and tension in the ground. Now there's just a passive acceptance of poor standards and its a sad sight. Fans are clearly still passionate about the club and want something to get behind but there's just nothing there.

You can't underestimate the value of an organising halfback. Harry Smith is not a flashy player by any means but he's just as if not more important than French and Field in the way he guides the team. Running fullbacks just don't cut it in the modern game - they need to be playmakers and I'm not sure Jack Walker has that in him. Stick a fork in Danny Houghton - he's done. Obviously it was a bit of a disaster for the overseas forwards - dreadful discipline and outright laziness at times. I thought Ashworth and Martin were very committed and brought some energy but outside of that there were no real positives.

Hull need to give as much game time as possible to their academy players this year. The results aren't too important as this current first team squad won't win enough games to challenge anyway. Hull would be better off preparing for the future and beginning to develop a side that has Hull at its core. Yes there's a duty of care and of course they shouldn't be played in more games than they can handle physically but the fanbase need a reason to get behind the team again - a genuine focus on Hull born youth might give them that.

Speaking as someone who passed the age of 20 a very long time ago, all modern music sounds exactly the same to me!
I'm not sure which year it was when I suddenly turned into my old man and I started to think this way!!! icon_surprised.gif icon_surprised.gif

Most fans knew what type of season we we're going to be in for before a pass was dropped , We have assembled a bottom four squad so I'd expect more painful results during the season .

Well my opinion for what it's worth.

What a show that was.

It was like watching a bunch of deers in headlights lady night.
Like they never knew the rules, never played with team mates before.

N.brown, was playing hot potato all night, never did anything with the ball. Neither he or Smith took the ball to the line. Hoy did better than both when he came on.

Okunbor, whilst he tackled pretty well and did have some energy about him, looked slow and turns like a tank.
Ligi looked good. Strong carries , good offloading (never a red, but Kendall was vr)
Esse esse didn't look too bad, harsh yellow. Going to be a lot of cards this season for sure.
Ashworth looked good too.
Pele looked decent until his brain fart... he'll be out for 5/6 weeks I reckon.
Not much to say on the rest.

Big disruption losing Sutcliffe just before KO, cator minutes in, then the yellow, then the red, then Houghton goes off and fails HIA, then walker off, think he was ok in the end.

All in all,I think it's going to be a LONG season, with many more downs then ups...and I'm not even a fan that's usually negative
