| Charnley attacked the arm and the ball came free. No knock on, no penalty.

Because of his bulk people think he ain't that fast and he is.
A Lineham v Charnley chase would have been an interesting one.
Charnley though was a sprinter in his school days.
You have to give Shaul more game time next year than this.
Bet him and Crooks have blinders on Friday.'"
No way would charnley have caught lineham with a head start.

Agree....it wasn't either.....
But it should have been!!!!!!!!
1 thing is certain though, all the young lads in the team (including the ones who didn't play ie, Green and Co) will be a lot better for the experience they have gained either playing in, or being involved in, a Wembley Final.

Oloughlin still comes from an offside position to pick up the ball

Doesn't matter though mate, as Charnley isn't judged to have touched the ball.
The only time you ever get that sort of call is when the marker interferes with the acting half.

| Have to credit Charnley too, it was an excellent and deliberate tackle to dislodge the ball.

| Not getting all this 'Shaul's only quick over 30 yards', he didn't struggle going 60-70 yards against Wakefield, Widnes, and Rovers. Just because Shaul is quick, doesn't mean that Charnley isn't allowed to be as well. I think a few have made a good point about the comparative workloads Shaul and Charnley had had, as well as the fact that Charnley wasn't carrying a ball.
My only disappointment was that he didn't see where Charnley was coming from and switch ball-carrying arms.
Also, for those saying that Lineham is so much quicker over distance, how quick is Ratchford then? Because he nearly ran Lineham down after turning round from a flat start and being 20 yards further infield.

How Karl?
IF the official decides the ball is knocked out but isn't knocked on then it doesn't matter where his player comes from to pick the ball up.
The only way it can be offside is if it is deemed to be a knock on from Charnley. None of the officials at pitch level thought it was knocked forward by Josh and so NONE of the Wigan players could be offside.
FWIW from numerous replays, Charnley DOES touch the ball, the ball DOES go forwards and it SHOULD have been a knock on. O'Loughlin IS in an offside position and picks the ball up so SHOULD have been a penalty to Hull.
The fact of the matter is, the on field had one chance to view this incident, were also chasing back to view the incident and both Charnley and Shaul were facing the Wigan line so probably looked as though the ball went backwards from Charnley. Had this been a video ref decision I'd fully expect Hull to have got the penalty (on this years form I doubt it though) but for a spare of the moment call, it is very difficult to get correct IMO.

I don't rememeber it ever being mentioned that he was doubtful for the final! in fact I don't recall him getting a bang against Salford tbh.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |

He certainly looked knackered by the end of the match. I'd put it down to a lack of match fitness. He's hardly played all season.

There is absolutely no doubt Charnley knocked the ball out and deliberately too. He actually went to punch it out and did so. I have no problem with any of the resulting refereeing decisions given at the time. Very difficult to give anything but 'ball lost in tackle' and play on........
