He's a good halfback. But to be 'worth it' he'd have to win you silverware or put something extra on your crowd. That may well happen, but it hasn't yet.

The rumoured wage Dodson would be on seems very fair for a player who has proved he is a quality player in this comp. I assume the very best ie Long, Burrows would be on a good fair whack more.

We'd have had to release one or more players and somehow avoid paying them off to the full value of their contracts. There's no other way to free up cap space nowadays. I guess it could have been done, but almost certainly not fast enough to seal a deal.
