| Quote: The Hollywood Frasier "I think im the only person on here who enjoys the whole wrestling aspect as some skills are technically superb. If we get rid of the wrestle all what will happen is we will go back to scooting from acting half been what wins you games, which was the case when Saints were dominant. Also halves wont need any skill to unlock a defence that is retreating.'"
The wrestle for me is what really takes the pace out of our game and makes it largely boring. Halves dont have the skills to breach a set defence meaning the tries that are scored are from individuals falling off tackles or short kicks. Maybe it's the way that our game is going to try to encourage more skillful plays to break a defence but i've not seen the skill levels increase in SL in recent years to do this. The best players in SL are the Mcguires and Tomkins who have the individual brilliance to step and run through the gaps. Serious lack of decent ball players in our league imo.

I agree but i dont think the solution is to make it earier just because some players lack the individual skill to break open a structured defence. The only thing that needs changing is that refs need to understand when a player has earnt the right to slow the PTB down and clamp down on players who slow it down without earning the right because it seems as though now refs just count in their head and blow for the penalty regardless of the circumstances.

Fully agree. I don't mind change, and like plenty of aspects of the current top-flight competition, including summer rugby, SL format with play-offs etc, and generally do a bit of eye-rolling when people hark back to the "good old days". But having recently watched the 1991 Premiership DVD, was surprised at how much more the game depended on skill, pace and sleight of hand compared to the modern rather dull wrestle-fest, and this with a team comprised mainly of part-timers. A bit depressing. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

But the problem lies therein. Coaches work more on slowing the ptb down legally than they work on creative plays. (in general)
I'd like to see coaches work on creativity like Wigan as well as the wrestle rather than relying on a short kicking game. (i actually would like to see the refs enforce the law like it used to be when the tackler had to role away, no wrestle at all)

I was thinking exactly the same. I must be getting old too then!! (not that you're old!)

| I haven't renewed and have no intention of doing so. I'll still attend the majority of games though.

Interested to know why you've not renewed but will be attending?

Not long enough by the sounds of it.

| my dads FC and hasnt renewed either, hes going to pick and choose his games next season, which probably means he will go against the top sides but not the bottom sides when the games might be a bit dull.

Personally I don't think you can predict which are going to be the good games. Taking last season, you'd have paid £23 on the gate to see us get smashed by Wigan, and missed a last-gasp thriller v Crusaders using that logic. May as well take the financial pain now which works out @ £15 a game for South Stand IMO.

| I renewed my pass today around 12 o'clock and was surprised by the size of the queue which went outside the ticket office by about 6 to 8 people when I arrived. I have renewed on the last couple of days for the past 5 or 6 years and the demand today was greater than previous years. I also noticed the four people in front of me that I was within earshot of their transaction, had all been pass holders in the past but none of them had a pass in 2010. I think this is a positive sign that a significant number of people have decided not to renew in 2011 for absolutely valid reasons (mainly the freedom of choice or for economic reasons), however, I think for everyone that does not renew a new or a returning lapsed passholder may fill that void. I expect that James Rule and Tony Sutton will be happy with the churn rate Hull FC experience with season passholders. Somebody somewhere is doing something right to get the vast majority of us to part with our cash year on year.
