| This is another example of the club being disingenuous with the fans, not mentioning its very part time and mostly remote. Myler has already started taking pages out of Pearson's playbook.
Why can't they just be honest with us ? Its still a positive but they are just setting more massive expectations from what is a part time, remote appointment.

Totally agree, just say what it is, it's almost like they are trying to hide it and the fans have only found out through another journalist.
This would still be very positive news (especially if he is running pre season, does the NRL pre season start later than ours?), but its like they have tried to turn something positive into a negative with their cloak and dagger behavior.

| Last season Manly started pre season on the 4th November, which must be similar time to us, you have to wonder how much time he will be here, surely Manly aren't going to give him 8 weeks off.
Wouldn't we be better just getting in a new S&C guy fulltime to work with the club face to face all year?

| Even if Clarke comes across for a couple of weeks assesses the players needs and fitness requirements then designs plans to get the best out of them it's still a positive, as long as they stick to the S&C plans and advice while he's not there.

This my concern (and t maybe addressed by bringing in additional people or Ellis taking on a more hands on role).
But this is currently our head of performance
https://www.hullfc.com/team/first-team/ ... n-davidson
And our head of our S&C
https://www.hullfc.com/team/first-team/ ... om-bennett
Doesn't really fill me with confidence, either of those in the positions they are and they seem to be there as one was a mate of smith and the other because he has been at the club a long time.

Reading all the different articles etc on the news of Clarke being brought in to consult, in true Hull FC style its all very ambiguous and open to question/interpretation as usual. You'd have thought with the membership packs now released they'd start to be a bit more open & informative but no.
On the face of it having someone like Clarke being involved is a positive and it does seem as though it will be in both a hands on and remote role throughout the year. I would suspect he will be here in Hull possibly prior to and the start of preseason to get a look at everything and set out/fine tune the plan and instruct the staff. Then I'd imagine he'll go back to Manly and keep a check and advise remotely and tweak things as the year progresses, with the odd visit back over to Hull along the way. Then again it could all be totally different.
Its still positive having Clarke involved but somehow the club through poor communication etc have managed to mess up what should have been a real feel good and positive announcement.

As you say hopefully someone like Ellis will.be moved into that role, someone who commands respect. If the club have gone out and got someone with a reputation like Clarke on board you'd think the players and coaches would want to take on board what he's saying as he's one of the best at what he does.
Imagine working as a chef and your restaurant gets Gordon Ramsey in for a few weeks you'd take notice of what he does and says.
Having the likes of Asiata, Rapana and Hardaker around will hopefully help change the mentality of the club and grasp opportunities like this with both hands.

| I wouldn’t be surprised to see him here full time eventually. Signed a 3 year deal might have given Manly a year to find a replacement.

I think the time difference is key here .
Sydney is +10 GMT, so FC will be training around 10pm Aus time, so he could remotely monitor the performance of the players live. Data could be sent electronically overnight with and I assume Gaz Ellis will be Head of Performance to ensure the system is implemented.

I agree..
Clarke only joined Manly November 2023, so I imagine Manly aren't too thrilled about this consultancy job.
Maybe Clarke will fly in alongside Cartwright, and prepare everything here before , Manlys pre season starts.

| Really don't think Clarke being remote is as big of a deal than what some are making of it.
Pretty clear he has put the pre season plan together, coming over to oversee the start and then leave it in the hands of our full-time staff keeping tabs on a part-time basis.
Is, again, frustrating how we have gone about announcing this.

While its a rapdily changing world with the technology and things are now more data driven, I do think theres a practical aspect here of how does someone sat in the Manly sunshine know if the squad are following instructions correctly running up hills in the Brantingham frost?
Random example but I remember years ago Danny Ward gave an interview that a club he was playing for had started doing weekly weighins and his answer to 'losing' a couple of pounds of water weight was to have a bottle of wine the night before in that example the data would say 'weight = fine' but it woulden't tell a coach on the other side of the world that the player had potentially come in with a hangover (not that 1 bottle of wine would impact a big prop that much however)

| Manly's statement reads that he will be with them for 2025 - it doesn't say he is there beyond that. So I would be happy for 2025 to be consultancy based, and full time for the remaining 2 years

| The club could have been unambiguous, and still posted the story in a positive light.
The way they’ve presented the story is classic James Rule style.
Just have be honest. It’s not difficult.

| Those people saying he will eventually come here full time, why would he leave Manly ? It sounds like an opportunity for him to earn some extra money from a mate while keeping his main job in a much bigger market with much better resources, plus getting some free flights home from time to time. I just hope he is committed to the role, its not going to be easy doing a full days work then coming home and doing more. Especially for 3 years.

Jon Clarke's Rugby Nightmares.
Jon Clarke rocks up at the KC, cringing and gurning while watching the training, telling Myler to get his head out of his and shouting "what's thaaat" as he looks through the fridges.

| The investment in the off field staff will be just as vital as any on field signing. It’s really been neglected over the last few years.
At least Myler is trying to do something about it.

It reminded me a little of Scarborough when I visited, albeit without any stiff North Sea breeze rolling in to your face! Plus it was considerably neater and tidier than any East Yorkshire seaside town I've ever been to!! And sunnier and warmer!
It must be very nice to live and work in the area (I was last there in November 2012), heaven knows why anyone would want to give it up for the chance to work near the glorious muddy Humber!!
The ferry trip from Sydney central out to Manly is enjoyable enough in its own right, although maybe you get used to it if you are taking it every day, either way it sure beats having to navigate your way around Hull City centre at any time of the day!!!
