| never ever from any sets of fans anywere have i ever seen such an over reaction to a 'friendly'! 1st 1of the season at that! Horne was never gonna show up that much,to many subs, team conceded to many pens, made to many errors! Lyne wasnt looking to bad for the short spell he was on concidering after 2 off season ops and only starting running again a month ago! took the high ball well in the wind and put himself in a bad position and paid the price. cleared of a facial fracture but been monitered for concussion! the forwards were rusty but playing against a team with minutes under their belts and playing it with a smaller bench and treating it as a last hit out were as we were simply starting out! So to recap we should play a 2nd row as a full back as opposed to playing to our strengths and be more concerned about the what the other team does! we should also destroy any hope of a settled half back combo instantly after 1 'frendly' . few more pens than id have liked and too many errors but mostly what i expected! i went for 18.32 rovers before the game and wasnt far out! id expect a step up against bradford and then a bigger step up against wire! but still dont expect miracles yet! think this team wont play its best stuff till april at least but saw enough yesterday more so early on to be optimistic! some on here should look that word up!!

| People are going way OTT about Lyne and Horne. It was Lynes first game at full back he was on the pitch for around 15mins didn't do much wrong, did well to take the ball when he got knocked out perhaps he should have jumped but he'll learn. People keep saying about trying the youngsters and when one gets knocked out playing in a new position we should ship him out Also saying Whiting to fullback is typical off this forum, he catches the ball gets tackled, when he pushes up he runs the most radical lines with his arms in the air when theres 3 defenders on the player with ball in hand. I want Gentle to stick with his plans, when players get injured we just replace that one position not 3 or 4.
It was Hornes 1st game with Seymour and under Gentle. Im not Hornes biggest fan but he is the best 6 we have. The last couple of seasons are irrelevant, hes a professional and will go out and do what Agar tells him to do. If Horne gets injured and we bring in Ellis or Nicklas i'd give it 2 games before people are moaning about them.

| Quote: barham red "My first game of the season yesterday and thought it was a good run out for both sides, coaches will have a fair bit of info to go on and no doubt both will have pluses and minuses that they will go away with and work on.
Obviously the biggest minus was the injuries and Hull will be happy to have seemingly come out of a pretty physical game unscathed. I'm happy with the result but to be honest its not the be all and end all, better to win than lose I suppose but as Hull were on their forst hit out and a few HKR players had had 40 minutes it was maybe to be expected.
I'm not sure about all the Horne knockers on here, I didn;t think he was as dire as some have made out. Rovers had the upper hand in the forwards and this showed on both HB's, if FC can get there pack working better then 6 & 7 will be allowed to show if they've got what is needed to take you forward.
Rovers looked like they had some good combinations later on against a tiring FC side and I thought Hall looked dangerous in the 6 position.
FC looked very dangerous from the ruck early on when Houghton's PTB was quicker and I thought we really struggled to handle him. Yeaman looked the worst player on the park, maybe its still a bit of 4 nations hangover or just ring rustiness.
I also think the statement about it being 2 poor sides was a bit harsh, it was more 2 newish sides who need some game time, still the new season wouldn;t be the new season without people making more of what was in essence a runout than is really necessary.'"
Pretty good post.

| Quote: The Hollywood Frasier "Talk about a MASSSSSSSSIVE over reaction on here which doesnt come as a surprise in all honesty.
Personally I thought we were far better than the score line suggested.
The PTB was so slow thought a ton of our penalties came from the ref not understanding good tackling technique should be rewarded.
Its clear in the middle of the pitch our emphasis is having the 1st tackler stand up the ball carrier and 2 others come in to finish the tackle late off with a upper body twist. The problem is Houghton and Heremia simply lack the size to make tackles like that on props like Paea who was their only go forward.
McKinnon looked really classy, O'Carroll went well and probably made the most metres per carry out of all our props, Martin played himself into the starting line up no question.
Westerman looked good in the 1st 20 but seemed to tire big time, maybe down to the added workload required in the middle.
The Whiting knock on when it was 18-20 was 1 of the biggest momentum changers probably ever seen in a game and we never recovered.'"
Only real negatives for me the kicking game & defence. Had the kicking game been better we might have been able sway the tide in the first half a bit and had the defence around the ruck been better we might have been able to keep them in our half once or twice. We also never learned and allowed them to offload at will.
That said the defence in the first half was largely sound and we did loads of goal line defence, two of there tries were from spilled balls. Maybe that amount of defence showed in the second half and we started to get bullied in the pack a little.
All in all I was happy enough and expect us to improve with each game. Only worry really was Westy, the workrate in the middle took something out of him in attack.

This is the problem, fans want the youngsters to be given a chance but when they do something wrong they shoot them down.
I thought Green did well yesterday after spilling the ball on his first hit up.

I agree about Green, was unlucky on his first hit up, got hit right on the bottom of the ball and popped out.
Its the same as Sharp. I thought he was one of our better players yesterday but some jerks sat near me and on there and the radio was calling him saying he'll never be a SL winger. They must be watching a different game to me.

it is 13 days until our first meaningful game, that is a heck of a lot in professional sport.

Sharp had a good game, he's just a scapegoat these days.

| defence was poor, especially some of the communication, but it will improve. what you have to remember is in friendlies the aim to to get match practice. if you look at the old hands, for example lynch, tickle and manu, they do the minimum required as they know their place is assured and they just want a warm up game or two without injury. i've watched tickle for example in a lot of pre season friendlies and he always starts the same way, come the start of the league the intensity lifts. look at rovers, they went at it full on yesterday and got 3 injuries - what use is that?

TBF medial knee after 2 minutes and a broken leg can hardly be attributed to 'going full out'.
I agree friendlies are a build up, FC have another game to build up, we were in our last before the season proper. If as you say the old hands do the minimum as they are assured a place then maybe they need to have a kick up the ar5e otherwise whats the point in them even bothering turning out.

| Quote: Tongan Mafia "Although I agree Horne really hasnt been the Horne of old and his pathetic attempt of tackling what led to one of there tries was really embarrasing, but you could see how much it hurt him to make such a poor attempt and to me we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Almost everyone on the pitch was shocking and needed the hit out. The pack was poor apart from O'carroll who looks a good signing and Mckinnon who looks assured and looks to have some quality pleased me the most.Martin seemed to make the right flank more dangerous and a bit more sound defensively. Seymour bell ringer on dobson near the line proves he aint scared of getting his hands dirty and his kick for the first try was classy and one of the few times he had a pack taking him forward. Im sure I will get slated but I dont want Lynne anywhere near the fullback spot to me he is the most over-rated player at our club and needs to be loaned out to a champ club or somewhere like wakey as he looks out of his depth to me.
Biggest plus was we havent got any injuries. Kr may have won the game but losing Galea is a massive blow to them.'"
Why on Earth would that be a good place to send him? I'd agree about some time in NL1, probably a dual contract, but no way would I like to see any of our players receiving any more coaching from Richard Agar. He'd probably only end up playing as a last 5 minute impact winger anyway.
