From the outside it does seem daft that we didn’t get the knee clear out done as soon as he became a Hull player, it was said he needed it while at Catalans, he’s on a three year deal I’d always be looking long term. Who knows maybe he just wanted to crack on and get stuck in with pre season or maybe he has just took a knock that wasn’t expected. I’m not just saying now because he’s had a set back but I always thought our best balanced 6 and 7 combo would have been Cust and Sezer anyway. The bigger problem would be if it’s effected our dummy half rotation plans with Cust, but the indication is that Borough is rated highly and Balmforth is having a good pre season. DT has also said that Cust has been training at 6 and not dummy half so again maybe not too much disruption just a like for like swap with Cust and JA.

A few big up player reports in the HDM may excite the optimistic and deluded on here but reality is the squad is poor quality put together by a novice whos first major mistake is now seen signing a crocked Abdul on a lucrative three year deal. You only have to look at our backline of Barron,Hardaker,Chamberlain and Briscoe to see how poor most of Ritchies recruitment has been and if Cross is signed its hardly a major step up.We should be aiming higher and showing R/L that we have ambition and the financial backing of two wealthy owners. If the owners had appointed Myler as the head coach or even a player you’d maybe have a point, but there’s no real blueprint that makes a successful DOR, I’m not sure every club even has one. Look at Radlinksi at Wigan, he didn’t work his way up to the Wigan job by being a DOR at smaller clubs or having previous experience in the role, he’s just a guy that the Wigan hierarchy obviously know and trust who has rugby experience who wanted to progress into a business role rather then coaching. Myler obviously has the trust of his father in law, and it’s essentially an off field business role, people in business appoint people they know and trust. It happens everywhere. Myler has the benefit of a very successful RL career, something that James Clark in a similar role lacked and what we all cried out for years, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be a great fit for the role. That’s not to say he’s going to be success and get everything right, as I said in far from convinced with recruitment but it’s been explained over and over again that there has to be some realistic expectations with players willing to sign and how we’ll have to build to being a play off side. We went for Lam, Sailor, Sullivan, Whitehead and likely countless others who didn’t want to come here. You mention Rovers, it’s cliche but they didn’t get there overnight. Players like Milnes, Wood, Ryan, Hadley, King etc all helped them build a solid squad in recent years, there’s no reason why players like Chamberlain, Holmes, Hardaker can’t do a similar job for us. It’s at best a 2-3 year project. Cross has lots of pace and has a proven record for a top 6 side over 3 seasons now. If we pull it off it’s the absolute best realistic signing we could hope for. We are not going to poach the best players from the likes of Rovers, Wigan, Wire, Saints etc it’s just not going to happen and we are unlikely to ever jump from 3 wins in season to contender's in less then 2-3 years without a miracle.

Wasting your time, had it in for Myler from the start and won't give him a chance. Had the chance to say hid views to Myler at the forum, but didn't go and chooses to moan amd complain but offers no solutions, ideas or anything of value to this forum.

I don't like how coaches talk in riddles at times about injuries, think it would be best if Abdul just gets the operation now and then can get a good run of games for the club later in the season. Wonder if Salford would let us loan Sneyd whilst they sort their finances out...

This argument is poor for me because the whole situation on recruitment is summed up in one sentence. If you were an up and coming or even an established success in Super League at the end of last season when talent was in short supply and every team was looking, would you have come to Hull FC? Because of the salary cap you can't pay phenomenal amounts to several players, so across the board I think we have probably compared with this time last season, got the best we could get!! For me, its certainly a lot better squad.

Hull really needed a clean slate after last year. With new ownership, a new coach and a squad that has been rebuilt very quickly, you have got that. The fresh start is definitely a positive but it does mean that this year and probably next year, to a lesser degree, will have to be about getting foundations in place. Myler’s job, so far, could be seen as easy or difficult depending on how you look at it - because what else could he do? Money can accelerate a rebuild but in fairness the new owners have already put in quite a bit, by RL standards, just to stop the club from going under. It’s easy to think ‘what’s a few million here or there, when you’re that wealthy?’, especially when it is somebody else’s money. It’s worth remembering that a lot of that wealth will be in businesses, investments and property that they won’t want to liquidate, rather than sat in current accounts waiting to be spent on transfer fees or big marquee wages. They won’t want to be embarrassed and I’m sure there’s plenty enough to make a difference over time. But the ‘no money out for 3 years’ thing feels like it was included in Pearson’s statement to temper expectations. Possibly, optimistically.

The same goes for Motu who benefitted greatly by the number of NRL players who were clambering to get to Super league because the difference between the two leagues was so much closer and he had the contacts in abundance. And as for Arthur Bunting, he oversaw an era in which I only missed 7 games home and away. Well he inherited two big signings from DDD and then attracted the best players in the British game to the club simply by offering them '3 times more than any one else could afford' if we wanted a player we just got him, as we were at the time the richest club in the game. With no salary cap issues we had all the money. I once asked Knocker exactly why he signed for us and he replied very honestly for the money. I still maintain that selling the current HullFC to players in a buyers market such as exists in Super League at present was a tough one. We have actually got a couple of players I would never have thought we would have. Give Myler and Cartwright and indeed our new owners a chance for once.

No matter how much money an owner is worth it's very unusual for them to part with cash with potential return unless they are fans of the club ie Huddersfield and Rovers. Players have two priorities, money and winning. If winning is a priority, money no matter the amount will not attract quality players. The pools you fish in are not governed by money but by potential success.

Even in 2022, Gale got sent off after 30 mins in the second match v Saints and got banned for 5 weeks. Think he also picked up another ban later in the season?
