It kills hundreds of people a year. I know people who have died because of it and a good friend permanently seriously injured by a drunk driver.
It's done by narcissistic morons who think they can drive having drunk a mind altering chemical....a drug....a depressant drug.
Your club has a serious problem with it. You have a player almost every season done for it. It's a serious f#cking problem.
Your serial offenders and your club, led by your chairman should do something public about it not wish the latest offender happy birthday on the day of his conviction.'"
I don't disagree with you about drink driving either but before you suggest excessive drinking is solely a Hull FC problem you should have a word with Maurice Blair about the effects the mind altering chemical had on his behaviour last Saturday night.

Didn't realise these 3 had been done for drink driving.

| whilst DD is a disgracefully selfish act sacking him isn't so easy an option as people might think especially given it's away from his 'workplace' and in his own time. Of course it could be classed as bringing the club into disrepute but might not in itself automatically be classed as gross misconduct with grounds for summary dismissal. Drink related misdemeanours can be specified in a contract of employment enough that are grounds for such but I doubt the club would have that in players contracts.
Given the incidences of players getting tanked up and stepping out of line (in whatever way that manifests itself) within RL circles and the bad impression/socially irresponsible behaviour that portrays especially with regard to children following the club/player involved maybe it's time clubs took a hard line and state drink related offences that end up with criminal proceedings (& found guilty) ARE gross misconduct and subject to summary dismissal after accruing all the facts and following proper procedure.

Ridiculous? How do measure the problem then. If an organisation has 30 employees (players) and one is CONVICTED in court almost yearly for the past five plus years then is that serious.....if not could you explain at what stage does it become serious.
Don't let your blind support affect your morals will you.....

I agree wholly. However in the case of Bowden etc they have all been in court and found guilty so employers can discipline them.
I wouldn't necessarily promote sacking but some level of discipline is required not deafening silence.

Oh dear.
Has he been in court and are you comparing getting drunk to getting drunk and driving a car?
I think you've missed the point.

If you think Scott Taylor's second season at Wigan was injury ridden and he was shipped out to Leigh, then you are an idiot. If you think Hull FC have a "serious problem" with players drink driving then you are an idiot. Please list the last half dozen Hull FC players convicted of drink driving.
You are using this as a point scoring exercise against Hull which makes you a pathetic troll.

I think he was inferring it is a problem from the very top down, not just the players

And Hudgell's record as a driver? This from someone whose grubby line of business leeches off road traffic accidents and alleged threats to public safety?
As I said before its a matter for the courts to decide as far as players are concerned - providing their ability to fulfill their contractual obligations isn't affected then the clubs don't need to put in extra punishment.

| The familiar lessons of this are...
1. Don't drink and drive
2. If you're not old enough to drive yet, even sober, remember that being a professional RL player provides a young man with an opportunity to be a role model, but it isn't in of itself a qualification. If you have a family member, or neighbour or teacher who is polite, kind, law-abiding and has a sensible work ethic, they could be a role model - even if they've no talent for rugby.

Oh, now you've turned it into a game, curse you.
So, Bowden and Talanoa obviously. Was Seymour charged? Raynor, although that is going back a bit, before he really got on a roll. Did you have five or were you leaving a bigger margin of safety?
Panes in our glass house include Paul Cooke getting a 16-month driving ban while with us in 2008. Watts wasn't charged following the incident that led to the binning and eventual bizarre buy back Ben Cockayne.

If you read my post again you may understand it was not just that Bllair was drunk, but his behaviour when he was drunk.
I'm not condoning Bowden in any way, just responding to your implication that there is a drinking problem at Hull but not at Rovers.

I'd have taken four, although Seymour was almost three years ago and Raynor I lost track.
Anyway, it's not a game to me but BE was clearly playing silly gets.

| young men, rugby and beer an ideal set that leads to ridiculous levels of bravado, egging each other on and displays of machismo. clubs that don't have strict drinking policies in place are in effect turning a blind eye to the facts that rugby players are more likely to have or be involved in drink related issues than the general populous.
