Quote Ian P="Ian P"I have been mulling this over all day and I want this to work for everyone.
Trouble is our board, they have a long proven track record for always going for the cheapest option. I think many of us welcome and salute Richard Agar's appontment and we do not doubt his coaching ability, indeed we hope it could be an inspired choice.
He is British and has served his time with York and then as deputy to both John Kear and Peter Sharp, with part of that as head coach between the two sacked coaches. Yes I used the word sacked because thats what happened, I know they have gagging orders on them and they can not say anything. PS got the push to protect the board from the fans, they have done that before. They had the jaunt down under to press flesh and see what was on offer, I would have though that a coach would have been the best man for that.
He has now got his assistant Andy Last, the reserve grade coach who has vast experience despite his tender years. His leadership lead the u21s to win the play off final last year and appear in two other finals in previous seasons. I approve of appointing from within and it worked for big football clubs like Liverpool, it does provide some continuity with the playing staff. Andy will do well and has a good rapport with the players and fans, he is a good technical coach and excellant at motivation.
I am expecting another appointment to the reserve grade coach shortly and could cause a few ripe comments
This season has now to be used to sort out the squad for next term, who to keep, who to show the door to, weaknesses and strengths. There is no room for sentiment and where the axe need wielding then Rich has to do it.'"
The bottom line is, that it has become blatantly obvious that our board are not willing to spend decent money on a top squad of players ( or for that matter a head coach ! )to compete at the top end of Super League , therefore the only option is...
