long has been poor. He's been blighted by injuries and largely anonymous when he has played. Maybe he would have looked better if we had some kind of gameplan but he hasn't been anywhere near the level you would expect from a player earning what he is

| Quote: carl_spackler "I think most of those are problems we DO currently have, particularly the work ethic one. You say yourself that we don't have too many players with the commitment and technique he does, so you acknowledge the problem is there, and that would mean it appears he's not made a difference by bringing it out in his teammates or passed on enough of his technique/experience to others.
I'm not saying he's not been a good signing, I just think that he's also not without his faults and some go overboard on him and just how much he's doing for our team. Bottom line is that he's a part of a poor team, and is not exempt from criticism IMO.'"
Absolutely , we've got rid of the wasters supposedly , we've got Fitz the great pro to lead by example but we still only get up for a game if the other team throw in some head shots or the ref winds us up. Fitz is on a mission but he's proved everything he needs to to everyone and he's now proving to himself that he can still play the full 80 and make 60/70 tackles in a game at 34. Absolutely admirable but it's not proving to be effective in improving Hull FC is it? He , understandably , looks slow and knackered especially with ball in hand later in the game. Surely we can find work horses in the UK? It's flair , pace and skill we should be spending our money on. Don't get me wrong I want him in the team but it should really be on the coaches terms and a proper coach would not play him at 13 for 80 in this team.

I our last two home games he has looked sharp and a bit like his old self. He should be paid with Obst imo and Horne dropped, Long isn't the problem in our halves currently.

That's a fair summary from what i hear. I'd be tempted though to play Turner with Long and use Obst at 9.

Agree with that also.
Horney has to step up to the plate tonight.

I would add that he was our only player of any note at MM creating 3 out of our 4 tries. He hasn't taken the team by storm but I wonder sometimes if people actually watch the game in front of them. His main problem has been lack of availability.

That's where i disagree, (not about Obst) Turner played very well at 6 at the start of the season for me. If Long is pulling the strings i'd prefer a running 6 like Turner next to him.

As a running 6 he was punching holes earlier in the season. Horne hasn't done that on his return from injury as i understand it.

Punching holes is not what is required of a stand off though is it? That's what a forward does and FWIW Horne has still been breaking the line but when it comes to passing, vision, tactical kicking, footwork and general variation of play, Horne is way ahead. I like Turner but he is too one dimensional and probably will end up as a strong running second rower.

It is from a running 6. I agree BTW that Horne has the far more rounded game but currently as a running 6 i'd like to see Turner in over Horne.
