Whats peoples thoughts on the rumour that we are linked with Mathers. This was mentioned as a whisper by gollum on sports talk. IMO when he was at Leeds he was the best fullback in the league but since going to Australia where he picked up a seriuos injury and returning to the pie eaters he has never lived up to the Leeds days. Is he what we need as a specialist fullback or should we look elsewhere.

The kid has got a serious attitude problem and has always been over rated. Hope we stay well clear.

We should only sign him if we need a new turnstile.

Look elsewhere, he's not what he once was and tbh you'd be better with what you've got. I'd have him for us over Platt though!

I think he was good at Leeds with out been awesome always seemd to beat the first man on kick returns but then his knee went just before he went to aus. Then the other went while he was out there now does not seem to have the same spring so cant beat a man as easily.

I'd rather leave Craig Hall at full back and take a risk on a NL1 fullback as cover players like Blaymire and Grix have both stepped up very well and would imagine be on a lot less money then Mathers.

He was sheiite at Leeds too.......He shouldn't be let near a Hull FC jersey......Unless we employ an assassin for the Derby

I think the point is that we're already on our 3rd choice full-back and if Hall gets injured, what then? Horne or Thorman could fill in, but that's pointless if it's for more than a couple of games and just takes us back to last season. I can't stand Mathers and don't rate him, but you can understand the link being made. We're very light in the backs now missing Skinny, Motu and Raynor; I'd hope we're looking in Aus/NZ for a quality back but even if we get one by the time the details are worked out and the visa application process completed we're looking at weeks. Disappointing all round.

On the other hand if we can keep our heads down and keep racking up the wins and still have the likes of Lauaki, Crocker (

), Raynor and Tony to come in, that's not too bad a place to be.

No he wasn't. He won a world championship, had numerous other world title fights and generally had a very good career. He wasn't an all-time great, but he was a good heavyweight at a time when the heavyweight division was still competitive and packed with quality.

I've said before id be very interested to see how Raynor would fair at Full Back.

if we offered witt a deal before we signed thorman then surely he was our half back choice for the next few season's. we didn't get him and signed thorman to cover until we could get another player.

byrnes out so we have another quota space and witt becomes available. would our coaching staff have changed their minds over him in 2 months?
