The money we've spent on HTW would have got us benji Marshall for next year, plus he's on over 20k a season as is Deano, & that's a lot of the cap when they don't even look like been anywhere near the first 17.

Sometimes you have to pay to keep a player with undoubted potential, so in years to come you don't need to fork out a transfer fee to bring a half in, when if you had just offered a fair contract to a kid who you know can be a star has ended up leaving the club for the sake of a few grand

So after 4 years with no signs of making the first team, you'd still keep paying them? I get they are young still, but if your good enough your old enough, would you not have got Sneyd? So do you let the kid stay on a bigger salary then others his age who hasn't played first team? & upset the rest.

4 years ago HTW was 15. Not sure you can knock the lad for not making the first team at that age.
Harry must be kept at all costs, by far and away the most skilful kid we've had in many a year. Whether he'll reach his potential (which I see as international honours potential) nobody knows. But I'm damn sure it's worth another few years at £20k+ to find out.

| Very few players start playing regularly until they are in the early 20's, Tompkins didn't play regularly until he was 20, Harry is still only 19, still plenty of time and him playing at York will be a massive boost. He should be kept, 20k isn't a lot of s 19 with his potential, I would bet the young kid from Fax is on a similar amount.
I think the money he wants us worth the gamble and hope Radford see it that way, if we don't keep him I think we will regret it and have another Hodgson.

Are you intimating that he was on £20k since he was 15, if not then your arguement is invalid regarding the 4 years and the fact he was only 15 four years ago.
Isn't his current contract one that was done under the approval of Radford/Tony/Pearson, if they saw the potential then and just because he hasn't had any opportunity to play why does that change things regarding a relatively small amount of money? As I've said before, we haven't had a junior rank player get to become a regular first team player since the end of 2013.
Where does the fault lie, exactly why are we signing other teams junior players?

At 15 he cost us 60k to go to Australia.

No fault and in fact since 2013 lots of youth players have made they debuts and played a few games, Abdul and Logan must have played a few games, they aren't quite ready to play everyweek and we have done well with injuries.
The best sides do what we are doing, sign others young players from other clubs to complement the squad and youth system, that's all we are doing, no big dramas at all.

| Logan and Adbul for sure have some appearances but wasn't Adbul a stop gap and then it seemed he was either overweight or just gone off the boil or out of favour/no place for him?
But as I said before and without it being this massive 'negative', I'm concerned that we have had this big gap between break through players coming from the youth set up that we heavily invested in. are the players just not good enough and if so why is that? Where is the next one coming from or are we resigned to signing players from other teams of a similar age to our juniors.
Whilst I understand that that happens (signing of players from outside) that we haven't really had a breakthrough player for sometime and losing some quality players for the sake of a couple of grand I would say that is more than a tad concerning.

I'll say it again, they are good enough, or certainly will be long term, but they aren't as good as the players we have in the first 17, if we have injuries they will come in, not sure why it is so hard to understand.
Players aged 20 just aren't ready to play regularly and apart from the odd exception in SL, this goes right across SL and the NRL.
Pearson took over 4 years ago, the youth was poor when he did so there was always going to be a slight gap, those players were 16 and are starting to come through.

Agree about the injury thing, our players have been very lucky. In past years we've had ten players out and have been forced to play kids out of desperation. I am hoping that as we near the serious end of the season that some young players can step up and give the veterans a rest. That seems to be how Leeds and Wigan do it, in a controlled manner.

| Also in the past we seemed to have one superstar youngster like Hall, Lyne or Lee and not much else and when these players didn't make it, we have nothing else.
Now we have lots of players coming through, some won't make it, but we have enough quality to make sure that some of them do.
