Although he did ok today he reminds me of Kevin penny but not even at his level . You need more then pace at this level , but hopefully gentle can make him a decent player . Like as been said his positioning is very poor , one kick today and he was stood were briscoe should be . But think we're best just putting this game to bed and forgetting about it as its what I and many others expected .

True, I'm just saying its a shame for the kid if the comments are true.

His positioning was bloody awful for 80 minutes. Yes, Hudds have a good kicking game, but he made it far too easy for them to keep turning him around. Combined with his ambling back and lack of confidence collecting a bouncing ball, it was costing us significant yards at the start of every set.

It's debatable whether or not he's SL standard, but I think it's quite clear that he's not a fullback nor likely to ever be.

Disagree, Horney was exposed at 16 yrs old...

When Reece was an amateur he stood out as he was more athletic than most of his opponents, he did not have any particular skill, ie passing, step, pass etc, he simply has not got the skill set to make it at this level, I consider he will make a decent NL1 player in time....I always rated Sheriff higher when they were amateur.

I'm not saying that Lyne is going to be a world beater and i agree that Sherriff (and Salter) are better players, but he was definately thrust into situations at 16 that he wasnt ready for physically and mentally.
Horney was a different proposition at 16. I saw him week in week out home and away for Hulls Academy at the time and he was far more prepared to take on the challenge than Reece was.

Maybe, not seen him since he went pro, but when they were younger he was the one with the most skill set, which says it all about Lyne really.

I hear what you are saying, both different characters, the jungle drums would have us believe Lyne has bought into the hype a bit too much, whereas Rich as we both know was a different character altogether.

Reece is 19 and has played a total of 12 first team games (13 today). Dont think he was over exposed.

Tom Briscoe had played at Wembley and for his country by the same age and Lee Crooks had played at Wembley and for GB as well as belting Les Boyd by the same age. Respect.

Dont understand your over exposure argument?

Sheriff was shocking on SKY last year at Hudds so not sure on that comparison either TBF?

His ambling back was no worse than Briscoe's. I'm not saying he'll ever make it at the top level (looks a little slight), but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as some are making out today.

Quote: Rock God X "His ambling back was no worse than Briscoe's.'"

Arguably not, but a) the thread isn't about Briscoe so I didn't think it relevant to bring him into it, and b) with Briscoe playing on the wing, his number one job isn't to field the last tackle kicks unless they specifically target his side. At fullback, Lyne's number 1 priority is retrieving the ball for the start of the set, and his positional play and speed (or lack of) in carrying it out made an already difficult job even harder for him and cost us a lot of yards and position.

Quote: Rock God X "I'm not saying he'll ever make it at the top level (looks a little slight), but I don't think he was anywhere near as bad as some are making out today.'"

I don't think he was awful overall (though I would not get close to saying he did well, either), but his positional play was. I don't actually blame him that much, I suspect he's made the move to fullback in an effort to improve his first team chances and maybe not without a little encouragement, but I just don't think he's at all cut out for it.

Ah so Reece cops the blame.......

He has now got the benefit of having coach who will bring out the best in him in time, remember Yeaman was simply dire for a long while and lets not even mention Sharp and Turner last terms whipping boys.

Too many injuries, too many inexperienced players, some senior players having shall we say an off day and other players injured during the encounter. This was always going to happen today and it will happen again and again, our squad is not deep enough or right and its not PG team.

We have been punching above our weight and we will again when we get enough fit bodies together, hopefully towards the end of this month things should improve week on week. Until then lets be happy we are where we are in the league and thankfully we went out to a better team in the cup.
