Whats even more amazing is that the board saw it fit to be very ruthless with Sharp and Kear, yet they appoint a man who should have had a big influence and impact on both regimes what they deemed a failure, and have seemed to have given him there full backing regardless of results and performances.

| Quote: MR BOJANGLES "I agree.
This is why until Agar has cleared the decks of all Sharps bad signings and see how his own recruited team are getting on, I cant see the board having any inclination to have a change at the helm !!!'"
Just as a matter of interest, who would these be?
Tickle?
Berrigan?
Manu?
Or perhaps you are referring to the development of Tom Briscoe?
Most of Hull FC's deadwood has been at Hull FC for many years, long before Peter Sharp turned up.
I can't understand why people thought Sharp was a poor coach. As has been mentioned, he turned a mis-firing squad in 2006 into Grand Finalists.
He was hindered by things beyond his control (Like Plummer etal, not getting Cooke to sign on the dotted line). It was Sharp who rescued 2007 with the signing of Matt Head. Does anyone really think that there will be a mid season signing to use the Croker cap money this season? I very much doubt Agar has the contacts that Sharp had.
2008 was virtually over before it becan due to injury, which is hardly Sharps fault. But yet more board room blunders made Sharps job harder (not offering the right contract to Shaun Briscoe has to go down as one of the biggest cock ups in RL let alone just for Hull FC).
Sharp was a typical Aussie coach. He got the best out of what he had to work with (which at times was threadbare) by playing percentage rugby. It aint pretty to watch but with a full fit squad its effective. Its no different to what Nathan Brown is doing at Huddersfield.
It does make me chuckle when some fans cry out of free flowing, harlem globtrotter rugby. It proves they have only been about for the past 6-7 years. Hull FC were never renowned for expansive play. With the exception of a couple of small periods of time, Hull FC were known for having a domineering pack which beat the opposition into submission.
In short, the board were far too trigger happy to get rid of Sharp, when their replacement has done more to damage the chances of us competing in a much shorter space of time.

Think that is being proven right now.

Correct - but in fairness to the Board many 'experts' on here were putting pressure on them to act. Better coach than Agar without doubt.

we were expecting them to ditch Sharp and get someone new in though, not just give it to the assistant cos he's 'cheap'

| I believe agar deserved his chance at the job. He had served his apprenticeship under previous coaches, so its only fair hes getting a crack. who else could we have attracted to the job anyway that would have been any better than we had with sharp? We can only judge agar fairly once hes assembled his own team.

I've been watching the club since the late 70's and haven't seen any evidence of us having a domineering pack since then

What's fair about giving a job to someone who hasn't got relevant experience?

I knew someone would come back with that one
It was a good pack but certainly wasn't head and shoulders above anyone else at the time. More to do with having a world class coach who got the best out of his players and made the most of opposition weaknesses.
We also had a great 1/2 back pairing to run the show

Then maybe someone should send a video of the team from around 1989 to 1991. How one coach can turn a group of average players into full international trophy winning players.
