All our young lads had experience with the exception of Kent, and possibly Shaul and Bowden, so the comparison is relevant and we SHOULD have done better.
I wasn't celebrating at the end as it should have been done and dusted well before the last 15 seconds, but a win's a win.
Although Briscoe dropped the ball over the line for his second try and the penalty we got after Shaul's run (that led to a try) was a farce. He played it to no one, the Wigan player ran round him to dive on it. No problem. Still, about time we got some decisions go our way'"
Oh hell yes.....was right in front of me and he did drop it,agree about the penalty as well as there was nothing wrong with that...we should have been well clear before they even scored.Nice to see that Wigan teach the u-19s how to use the obstruction rule to the full on attack and kick-offs.

Thing about the Briscoe one is that everyone around me saw it. The only one who appeared not to have was the in goal judge and it was right in front of him
Also thought Wigan were lucky with the angles some of their dummy runners ran too. Not straight through the line. Agree about the obstruction rule.

| Who did Powell run through for his try? I thought it was Watts but the general concensus was Westerman?

Think every Hull fan saw that Briscoe had dropped the ball and when Childs went to have a word with the in goal touch judge expected it to be disallowed. Same with the Shaul break why no one had raced to get to the quick PTB beggers belief, and was baffled when Childs then gave us a pen when the Wigan player dived on the loose ball. Generally Childs had a shocker all round a lot went Wigan's way in the 1st half and thought at least one possibly 2 of their trys came from knock on's.
Brilliant vision from Houghton, kicking for touch from the restart after Pies had missed an attempted drop goal, that set us up for that DJ drop goal with 11 secs on the clock.
Everyone is focussing on Wigan's young guns, they played really well, bags of energy and enthusiasm and speaks volumes about their youth system with a seemingly endless amount of talent coming off their conveyor belt. But lets not forget we had a lot of changes due to injury, several of the senior players were clearly still drained after Wembley and I think I heard mentioned that our average squad age was around 23-24.
It was a rollercoaster ride lots of errors in the 1st half and some periods of exciting play from both siides, like Mrs B I really enjoyed it.

Agreed. We usually lack that (hate to use the phrase) X factor play. Something a little different when unexpected. Everyone expects a short kick off when its close late in the game, but we have no variation anywhere in our game. Until Mint did that I was resigned to the draw, but it set Wigan back, gave us the chance and we took it.
We need to be a bit more spontaneous in our play (I remember Sinfield driving a drop out all along the ground into touch a few years back, getting the ball back and taking a lot of pressure off Leeds - that sort of thing) and keep the oppo guessing for the whole 80.
Do we have that kind of player?

Briscoe was penalised for the same thing during the CC semi against Warrington. Either refs don't know the rule about markers being able to play at the ball or it's been changed on the quiet.

As pointed out there, I got Miller's age wrong, he's 21. Definitely not the average age of 22 claimed though.

I agree with you. And neither was Briscoe's either.

You always get something like this when a ref has to make an instant decision in a situation he's never seen before. If in doubt, penalty.
In fairness, in all my years of watching the game, I can't recall ever seeing a player being made to play the ball when none of his team are behind him. Just shouldn't happen!

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?: |
|
| Quote: "Player marking dives on the ball
If the player marking the tackled player at the play-the-ball dives behind the tackled player in order to drop on the ball as it is heeled, he is guilty of a voluntary tackle and should be penalised. If there is no acting half back it is permissible for a player to dive behind the tackled player and drop on the ball after it has been heeled provided that, unless tackled, he immediately regains his feet'"
