It's not as clear cut as what is lead to believe there are many exceptions within the salary cap you will probably find that the actual money spent on wages is over the the salary cap. There are stipulations about how much of a homegrown players wages count towards the cap you may be paying a young lad 40k but say only 25 of that counts against the cap.

I think that 83% is a tad high for 17 players but don't know what the rest of clubs are spending but it doesn't leave a lot to have good quality replacements.

Think there is a rule if a player misses so many games through an injury that the club or player can claim insurance and write the players contract off. Bradford did this with a player called Tupou years ago.

Personally I like to keep Kelly, still one of the best players in the league when fit and motivated, needs a pack to play behind.

Well we sort of know that the first 17 share about £1.5m so our first choice side averages £88k with the others, presumably Fash and Co on an average of £38k. As you say there will be nuances like homegrown players dispensation but I thought this only.applied to one player (albeit that was ages ago so quite possibly the rules have changed). There's then the marquee rule and that one about protecting international standard players or some such.

I guess the challenge is whether we spend more on the bottom end, maybe on more experienced depth, and offer less to, or offload, top end players like Taylor, Connor etc, or have more balance in the middle. The challenge for everyone at the moment is a difficult market so value for money is hard to come by.

Goodness me. A contradiction in terms that a thread you just deemed so boring can agitate you so. Perhaps the club can publish a register of player salaries to fully address the initial question about appropriateness of distribution without the need to apply some basic common sense assumptions.

How would knowing individual salaries answer the original question? We know that the best 17 earn 83% of our salary cap so knowing each players' salary would make no difference
