Not surprising was it when 5 days previous we played Wakefield away and were beaten.
Did you conveniently forget that?

No, did you conveniently forget about the attendance or the drop in crowds in 2012 when we moved to Sundays?

The top 3, who are also the best supported clubs, all have Friday nights as default.
The 4 former SL clubs now scrapping in the Middle 8s all have Sunday afternoons as default.
Warrington are seeking to move to Fridays according to Tony Smith due to the material disadvantage backing up Sunday to Thursday.

All Sky Sports driven isn't it? The chosen match day is not decided by the fans preference in the slightest - not even sure if the Friday night corporate line is totally valid or hugely significant.

With Thursday night games now part of the fixture list it makes the most sense to commit to Friday nights to always give your squad the best preparation possible.

Logic dictated that the big clubs moved to Fridays first as they were more often then not chosen for the Sky Friday night games anyway.

Shame as I would like to see a mix of Friday and Sunday games dependant on the time of the year. I thought the Sunday afternoon game against Cas was spot on for atmosphere with Cas bringing far more then the usual Friday night following. Fully understand the reason for away fans (and some home fans who live out of town) not fancying the Friday night motorway hell.

In 2013 we played Cas at home on a Friday night and we had an attendance of 11,852 - and that was on the back of a big defeat at Widnes.

It would be interesting to know the number of Cas fans at the 2013 game compared to this year - granted Cas are doing well which will increase the figure this year.

Of course it's Sky Sports driven, they own the sport to all intents and purposes. Suggesting a return to Sunday as default would not help our cause IMO as the four day turnaround is just too challenging.

The Friday / Sunday debate is for me dead in the water. There has been a so much baloney written about it. AP is clearly more interested in corporates. I recall him alluding to the fact that kids attendance is down since Fridays became regular and that he wanted to address that situation. I see no indication that he is.

I'm a strictly Sunday man due to living in and working in London. There was a time when I would bust a gut to ensure Friday afternoons were free for me, but I can't and won't do that anymore. Spent too much watching dross. Forget IAKOW my passion is as great as ever but I am afraid until I see that passion constantly on the park then I will continue to pick up the scraps that I can get from Sunday games. My financial support is still there as the family wardrobe will show, but regular attendance is not.
I have always been vocal in my desire for Sundays and still have yet to see evidence that it helps the squad (I don't get the turn around arguement, it certainly doesn't help our home form. Thats a fact) I have also yet to see where the initial survey was done. But time has moved on and so have I. Sundays are now commited to family things which involve other activities which often get planned well in advance of fixture changes. I suspect I am not the only one. This may well be different as I say if the passion was there on the park regularly.

I have seen games this season. Sts away at Easter was a highlight as was Magic weekend. I also attended Wakefield away and thats when the penny dropped. a046.gif

I have watched (FC Live) with interest the change in style over the past few matches. I have also heard LR say its not a style he coaches. He doesn't like it. That sums up our problem. The players know exactly how they should be playing. The fans love that style and its a style that will win us far more than the LR way. But so long as LR is in charge we won't see it regularly, regardless of who we have brought in for 2016.
I would imagine a few fans will get passes on the back of that potential style being played week in week out, but it won't happen.

So its Thursday / Friday or whatever night Sky dictate and a dross style of play. That will inevitably mean closed stands (yes plural) and crowds of under 8000 regularly, until AP wakes up or LR changes his style.

So are you saying that Radford wants the team playing conservatively (5 drives+kick etc.) but the players ignore this and play their own way ?

Around mid-season Radford said several times that he wanted the team to play more freely and chance its arm more than it was doing. I think we have seen that happen increasingly as the season has progressed - at times we have overdone it and perhaps tried things that certain players can't execute consistently. We can hope that the personnel coming in next season are better equipped to execute to a better level. Recently Radford implied that in his opinion it's not possible to play loose gung-ho stuff 100% of the time and that he prefers to coach some control. Leeds, the best team by some margin, play a mix of open rugby together with expert game control by their senior players and a superb defence. That is demonstrably the blueprint for success and they achieve it with a high quality playing staff mix of young and senior players. Let's hope that Radford can emulate this style of play and squad mix with next season's squad.

you are correct here.
It would be great to see open off the cuff rugby every week but it has to be balanced.
If you look at how Leigh play and as attractive and exciting as it is at times, when it comes to competing against Super League teams they couldn't change their style in order to see out the game for the full 80 minutes.

I am yes. I had it from a good source that in mid season the players sat down with the coaches and told the coaches (LR) how they wanted to play. As a result we saw our little purple patch which resulted in a bit of optimism. Slowly that erroded and we went back to type.

Now I am not for one moment telling you to believe me, but that is what I heard and that is what I believe. Its no coincidence that the pressure is off now and we are trying to play attractive rugby.

I know that flash off the cuff rugby is not what is required very match. There will always be matches for various reasons why you have to do it tough. I've watcvhed the game for far too long to know that. Leeds are the best example of that, but they also have a fantastic backline that needs to be fed with some flare.

We have on our day one of the best packs in the league, certainly our backrow is second to none. As a result we play a very conservative style (dour imho). But we know that when they are given the freedom (or take it upon themselves) to express themselves (as we saw after Easter) we have a backline that can score and excite. Sadly though we have a coach who would if he could play 11 forwards and just have two small half backs on the park.

All opinions I know and thats mine and how I see us. As a result we will be fed the same next year, regardless of the "stars" we are bringing in.
