| Quote: knockersbumpMKII "Well did Radford sign players ahead of Rankin or not? Is Rankin going to be first choice 1 or 6 or not?
my point is that Radford has a plan as to whom he wants as first choice in the positions that Rankin plays and it isn't Rankin is it! That he's offered him a 3 years deal doesn't change that fact and I never indicated otherwise.
However people are slating Rankin for maybe wanting to move back home, yet can't see that the guy just wants to play first team rugby not sitting as a squad member waiting for an injury or interchange as a utility back.
As for what Rankin did last year, what utter rot, the lad did plenty and he's a 6 not a 7, compare what he did to the rest of the first 17 and there were few ahead of his attitude and ability..'"
We got beat by less than ten points or less about 9 times or something similar. A established half would of got us over the line a few times. Not knocking him as such. He's a young kid. But you tear our coach down at every opportunity yet you prescribe to the thinking we should carry on the same this yr as last.
He's played a full season n missed 1 so far having had an injury. He came as a 6 or a 1. Still same as best as I can tell. Shaul based on Sunday n pryce based on Sunday are currently ahead. But a season is long n it's a squad game. Wire for instance have wheeler ratchford Russell O'Brien myler playing for 3 positions. It's what good teams do.

| If Radford didn't rate Rankin he wouldn't have signed him and wouldn't now be offering him a 3 year deal.

| I haven't said anything about Radford not rating him FFS, some of you haven't got the ability to read and understand what's written.
I'm clearly pointing out Radford obviously has a plan who he wants in the first team slots and that isn't Rankin, from that it doesn't surprise me that Rankin would want to go elsewhere to play regularly even more so if he misses his family.
it's certain posters that feel the need to call out Rankin that gets on my goat.

If Radford doesn't want Rankin to play in the first team why is he offering him a 3 year deal? Not 1 year or 2 years but 3 years.

| I think Rankin might have been first choice FB, before pre-season games, unfortunately for him, he got injured in the first game (Is he even fully fit?)
Shaul took his chance and it's up to Rankin to get his place back.
Pryce was rightly signed for his experience and is proving an excellent signing.

| He's struggling to get in to our first 17, not sure he'll get in to any sides in the NRL. However if he wants to go home that badly he may choose to go back to reserve grade and take his chances on probably not that much less money.
He's a decent player with a bit of potential, he's not as good as some make out (probably because of his enthusiasm) but he's certainly someone i'd like us to keep hold of if the price is right.
I'm glad the club don't want to put an NRL clause in his deal, if he signs it should be because he's committed, not because he wants a deal while he waits for a NRL deal.

Rankin wouldn't have scored the try's Shaul did, IMO.

| To be fair to rankin, we signed him to partner miller, all the hype was a 6,7 combo between them two all pre season,,.... then first game of the season, we played miller at 7 and a finished richard horne at 6..... you couldn't make it up...

| Quote: knockersbumpMKII "Well as we have signed Pryce what is the point in him staying? He wants first team game time and not playing second fiddle (To Pryce & Shaul atleast) Radford has signed Naughton as well so it was pretty obvious how this was going to end and what Radford had planned all along.
And for those who can't wait to wade into players because they want to go back home (& in this case partly because the coach is signing other players ahead of him) I think you have no idea what is going on and your attitude toward him stinks.
I think Radford probably sees Rankin and Sneyd as our medium to long term half back pairing. At this moment in time the two of them together would be lacking experience, hence Pryce, but when Pryce moves on Rankin will step up, in the mean time he's a very capable back up with a bit of utility value. He will play 20 games this season injuries permitting.
I may be wrong but I don't think Radford sees Abdull as a 6 and if Rankin does leave we will probably look for a replacement. HTW and Sneyd would probably be too similar to be a good partnership.

Pretty much how I see it. He's got a fight on to get in the 17, and fairly so, think people are getting a little carried away with how much we need to keep hold of him. I don't want us to get rid, but he wouldn't be at the top end of my priorities either, TBH.
Also, I wonder how much of this story is just his agent trying to apply pressure for a better deal from us.

That was my thought when I saw the story. Quotes from the agent, little or nothing from club or JR (he may have said he wants to play in the NRL, but I'd say that if I was interviewed too). Lo and behold a new contract is under discussion at the exact same time as this story appears.

Exactly. Being in contract negotiations when you're not in the team is not a strong position, so all of a sudden he might want to go home and need enticing to stay.

| I think it would be a huge mistake to hold onto Rankin, can't clam a starting spot, lucky to make the 17 each week, money and quota spot should be better used.

Thanks for the concern!!!!!
I'm led to believe our owner is a particular fan of young JR, but as the superb and highly revered Headon, Jones, Simonon and Strummer so immortally penned, [i'Should I stay or should I go''[/i
