The devil's in the detail. Nilled at Wembley with probably the worst performance ever by a side there and certainly our club's worst performance at that venue. Followed by a record play off defeat and total unequivocal embarrassment. Maybe Radford's plan was to finish low enough and get knocked out of the cup so we didn't have to suffer those disgraces again.

I can see the logic in that from a radford point of view but the fact still remains that last season was much better than this one is working out even taking into account 2 dire performances.
I'd also have said that the 83 final was much, much worse having been at both

There were many more less than impressive performances than those two dire ones last year. People seem to have short memories when assessing Gentle. Last year we had Holdsworth who was an excellent kicker and although never the same after Meli smashed him early in the season he could certainly kick. we don't have a kicking game at our club now.
1983 was bad - I was at both as well - but due in the main to having one of our play makers carried off early. Funny how good play making's never really gone out of fashion.

Wed have won an extra 2 - 3 games this year I reckon just from still having Holdsworth.

83 was dire. We were the best team in the comp and should have won that game at a canter.
I lost faith in gentle by the end of last season but appointing yet another coach in his first head coach position was never going to be the answer

If there'd been social media around then it would have been 'For the sake of the club Bunting has to go'
As I've said I don't give a toss about Radford sack him tomorrow for all I care. The key for the club is to recruit some players who know what they're doing in key positions. I wouldn't have Noble even short term as he had money and a new squad this season and still failed. His time has long gone.
Pearson has basically had his money wasted by McRae and Gentle with some shocking recruitment in the last two years. I feel for him a bit because he needed good advice when coming into the game and didn't get any. His promise of world class halves would have been driven by what he was being told which was clearly bollox. His youth investment is good and will bear some fruit but isn't the total answer. Whether he has the will or the money to start again at first team level is questionable.

Not saying Noble is the answer, but I think it's harsh to say he failed at Salford. They had a poor start, but looked like they were starting to get it together before he got the push. Since Noble left, they've been noticeably poorer under Harris.
I'm undecided about him, to be honest. He's not the coach that's likely to take us back to the top, but it wasn't that long ago that he arrested Wigan's decline and set them on the right track for McGuire to build on. I'd prefer to see us bring in a Tony Smith type of coach, but I reckon Nobby would be a step up from the current incumbent. Whether he'd be a significant enough step up to warrant his appointment is open to debate.

| Noble has made one of the worst decisions in SL history, by loaning out Sneyd. Too old school and thinks too short term and it showed in his tactics and recruitment.
I don't think Gentle can be blamed for the cup final defeat, if we had held the ball 50% more then we could have won! players fault that one.

Some of that might have been Koucash's fault. He seems to want to buy instant success, rather than building up to it over a period of years. There might well have been pressure on Noble to sign 'experienced' players, when all it really meant was that he was getting a lot of past-it hasbeens.

exactly my thoughts - koucash wanted big name players in the salford team to attract publicity and thus get bigger crowds in from the off. players who didn't fit in this bracket looked like they wouldn't get in the team so were loaned out.
wonder who actually picks the team at salford

| Tim Smith is hardly a big name player, certainly compared to some of the other signings they have made so I don't buy into that argument.
Noble just got it wrong. Whatever happens to Radford I don't want to see Noble at Hull as he's well past his sell by date.
