| Steve "Knocker" Norton for me closely followed by Peter Sterling although they always say never meet your hero's as when the 82 challenge cup winners came together the majority stopped off for a drink in Sportsman late on and whilst chatting ( or should I say slurring ) to our three great New Zealanders I spotted a rather blurry eyed knocker sat at the bar and started to say how as a youth I looked up to him as a great rugby player and his reply was to flat palm me on my forehead and proceed to laugh. It wasn't until I was telling John Edison that he told me this was knockers and Lee Crooks party piece as most people fell over looking silly. To my surprise I just looked silly.

| Knocker,
Sterling,
Swain,
J Smith.
Having lived and followed the club through the glory of the 80s I feel somewhat spoilt. Very very few of the modern players (SL era) would have lived with the stars of the 80s. Players who loved their rugby, loved the club, loved their coach , loved being part of a great squad, but most of all felt pride in the shirt which us fans responded to. If only the modern day spoilt full time pro had that same passion.
Every one of the stars of the 80s was a hero of mine and to narrow those stars simply down to two mentioned above does not do the players justice.
I tend to think in terms of players I would pay to watch. Maybe it's my age but there are so few in SL at the moment. Indeed in world RL though those I would pay to watch are NRL players. I am just hoping SBW stays fit for Wembley.

| Tony Grimaldi, wasn't the best and couldn't live ability wise with some of the players mentioned here but very under rated and always gave 110%.

60404_1375165563.png Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proudly proclaiming `Wow, what a ride`:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_60404.png |

| Difficult for me to have a favourite, so many bloody era`s have passed.
Whiteley when I was a nipper,
Keegan when growing up,
Knocker when I knew what was really happening,
Sterling when I appreciated the silky stuff,
Crusher when i got slower,
Mahre and Swain when I needed a reminder of how good we used to be and
Whiting when I needed to be reminded what loyalty and effort where.
