| Quote: Jake the Peg "The last decent coach we had was mcrae. He built the foundations of the team which won the cup in 2005 and got to the GF in 2006. Since then we've had a succession of assistants, none of whom have been up to it. We really should have appointed someone with head coach experience when we appointed gentle and to make the same mistake again is foolish on the part of pearson IMO.
Shame that powell has joined cas as he would have been a better candidate IMO.
Also think that Radford is too matey with the current squad and if tony's first 2 pieces of recruitment are feka and mika then he's as bad as mcrae if not worse. Add cooke and last into the mix and instead of a dream team you have a potential nightmare one.
I really think pearson needs to take a step back here and take some advice from outside the club before he makes things worse'"
This. Although in fairness, McRae had a better squad than just about any of his successors.
Smacks of Pearson jerking his knee following our abject performance against Hudds. Maybe he ought to bear in mind that our defence was actually worse than our attack that night and supposedly Radford is in charge of defence coaching...

I'm starting to get that sort of feeling. Like we've been here before. I hope the outcome is different this time, but I'm far from confident it will be.

| Our consistent lack of attacking structure two years on means I think Gentle is not the right man for the job.
No idea whether Radford is up to the job of Super League head coach or not, but he has nowhere near the squad at his disposal that, say, Anderson does so expectations need to be managed well here. What I would hope is that recruitment improves as we target players with more aggression, but not sure that Radford will be a draw for top players.

I'd much rather have Morgan than Radford or McBannana. Didn't like the bloke but managed to get a rabble playing well above their level.

| If the club announced Morgan straight away, I reckon there'd be quite a mixed reaction. But if they drip feed us rumours of Radford taking over for a few days, then announce Morgan, we'll all be so relieved that we'll welcome the appointment with great joy! Sorted.

Sooner have Radders over McBannana...id take morgan with Radford and Last as assistants, bring Cooke back for u-19s and employ other coaches...sprint,kicking coaches on p/t basis.

Agreed, but I think Gentle was gone after the Saints game. AP's had some average advice on recruitment from McRae (and Howes), I hope he's taken external counsel on our new coach.
The reality is the first quarter on Thursday will have tipped some wavering pass renewers over the edge, who wants to pay £200+ for another year of that? AP knows visible change is needed. Whether this is the right replacement, I'm unsure.

The exact same 'give him a chance', 'young English coach', 'players respect him' twaddle has already started on Twitter. It's like viewing the Sharp/Agar transition through a time warp. Do people never learn?

If we got morgan we'd just replace howes with riolo
Not the best coach in the world but noble is a cut above any of the names touted here and was desperate to come when we appointed gentle. If we'd gone for noble we'd be in a better position now than we are IMO but I still think powell would have been a smarter chocie

To be clear, I'm ambivalent at best about Gentle going. Lovely bloke but increasingly doubtful he could turn things around, for whatever reason. But Radford? Deary me.
Pearson needs to bear in mind what happened the last time we replaced an Australian called Peter with his young assistant...

Apparently not. Radford has only two years of experience as an assistant, and that in a set up that is now deemed to have failed. Appointing him to the top job seems, at best, ill-advised and at worst suicidal.

| So, Here we go again with employing yet another unproven assistant.
We should employ an experienced Director of Coaching, to instill team unity, and to guide the incumbents to take over.
Terrible appointment, IMO (if it happens)
