Quote: fc baldy "How about a couple of yrs down the line or is Radford a complete no go due to the fact you dont like him.'"

Nobody can say what kind of coach Radford might develop into, but there seems little point replacing an 'untried assistant' with someone with even less experience. That would be repeating the Sharp to Agar transition with the risk of getting the same result.

Not suggesting you want Radford in BTW - just addressing the general point.

Hence the 2/3 yrs down the line and with a stronger youth set up and the much vaunted youngsters ready for action.Just a scenario mind.

Certainly not something I'd rule out. He's had a ton of experience and with a decent length apprenticeship could develop into a good head coach.

Same for me, im not a big fan of head coaches who have played with a large majority of a current squad.

I know Lee's not the type to stand for and crap but theres still the mates element.

Paul Anderson, Shaun Wane, Brian McDermott even Brian Noble, they all did a long coaching apprenticeship before they got to were they are now and most had solid club foundations already built by the time they took up there positions. We're still digging the footings

So criticism of a players performance means you dont like them? You must hate half the squad. I have no opinion of Radford as a person so if he had a track record as a good coach I'd Welcome him.

Just 4.....ah but how does he get a good track record unless he makes the step up.

At a club with less pressure/expectation or stepping up after a period of success/stability?

Quote: Diogenes "If we sack Gentle we can write off next season. We will be back where we were 2 years ago. It will be another season of transition. The new coach will say these are not his players and the players will need to learn new structures and systems.
Who would we replace Gentle with? I'll tell you now I would rather have Gentle than McNamara, Radford, Last, Long, Potter, Brian Smith, Cooke and pretty much anyone else mentioned on this board lately. If Daniel Anderson was ringing Adam Pearson about the job that would be another matter but he isn't and won't be available.'"

Spot On....

Our defence has been excellent this year giving up 60 less points than last year.
We've scored 40 less points though given we've had some terrible disruption in the halves just as we were getting something going andwe've not really come back from that vein this is hardly surprising.
However looking at all other clubs only Catalans and Hudds in the top 8 have actually bettered last seasons 'Points For' (Bradford and Wakefield also)

Having Ellis out for a third of the season early doors didn't help.
We've lost a lot of games by very small amounts and a couple of draws that we maybe should well of won, if fans can't see that we've improved overall as a club & on the field compared to last year then that is very short sighted.
It isn't just about our actual comparative position, it's about how much more we've been competetive with the front runners, about how much better our youth system is and the knock on effect that has.

We've won the same amount of games against the top runners yet we've been closer in the results overall especially when you take into account Hudds massive improvement this year.

There's lies, damn lies and statistics as the saying goes. Can you do the same analysis for the 'lesser' teams that points have been dropped against (Widnes,Wakey ,London etc) That is where the poroblem lies.

Quote: yello-belly "Recruitment and coaching are 2 different issues, and neither have been good enough IMO. I can accept that Gentle may not have got the players he has wanted, but that's probably the same for most coaches. But the issue for me is that we have not improved during his reign. His aim was to close the gap between our best and worse performances. That hasn't happened,'"

IMO that's the most difficult thing for anybody to make a case against. He did specifically come out and say that, and if anything the gap has gotten wider, because I'd say that our best has improved more than our worst.

I'm not so sure, the gap between the CC semi & the final was huge, and beggared belief really.

That's what I mean, our worst is still just about as bad, but our best (i.e. the 2 visits to Wire and Leeds at home) were pretty damn good, probably the best we've been in about 5 years. That's why I'd say there's more reason to say the gap is now wider rather than narrower.

tis the same old excuses though...weve been turd in every game barring maybe 6 this year.... just think though, we stole a point away at London, tickle kicking one from the touchline on the hooter, and also had 2 points given to us by ganson...take them off the 28 we managed to accumilate over the season, and that leaves us 3 points ahead of widnes and bratfud....APPAULING
