I think he'll definitely do a decent job for a year, both on and off the field.
Yes when he broke the line he did have a total lack of pace. However the fact he actually broke the line is the positive, he has young fast legs on his outside to use once he's broke the line. I thought Sharp looked a lot better at weekend and will continue to grow in stature by 1, been given more game time and 2, playing outside of somebody like Martin who has the experiance to guide him in a positional/defensive aspect whilst also putting him into space to best utlise his pace.
Someone like Martin will also bring on the young guns, improve there talents by been a mentor and improving there awarness and positional understanding and bring them through to the next level of there development. ie ready for the rigours of superleague rugby.

I cant believe that Pearce is mentioned as a potential Super League centre but in a 4 page thread Liam Cunningham isnt mentioned once.
Cunningham should have got a run out against us at either centre or second row (his best position in my opinion). He is better far better than Liam Kent. Not sure what your coaches are looking at to be honest.

I agree, I was being kind when I said Pearce is a bit off. If you watched the forum Gentle was asked the question about Pearce and he too was very diplomatic stating he's still learning our game.
Cunningham and Crookes will be the next the break into the first team imo

He didn't "break the line", he intercepted a long pass and had a free run to the try line, albeit an 80m run.
As for this supposed solidity that he brought to our right hand side, all I saw on Sunday were rovers breaking down our right hand side almost at will (and usually scoring) regardless of whether it was Turner or Martin out there.

| He'll do an average job for one year which is what I'd expect from an average player.
If, as AP has stated, we've got £60K left, why on earth didn't we add it to the Martin and Burnett salaries and sign a quality player (centre) instead of two very average players?
As for Turner, he seems to have all the attributes to be a very good player but just isn't. His defence on Sunday was as bad as it has ever been. Maybe playing his last season in a Hull shirt?

I think your right he does have the right attributes, he scored some sublime tries last year, I will be interested to see how he goes under Gentle, I think if he can tighten up defensively he will be an excellent player. I know Bomber rates the lad highly and so do I.

Ye he broke clear of the defensive line, i never said it was a tackle bust or anything else. I said he broke the line, when you intercept a pass or go through a gap or bust a tackle you break through the defensive line.
As for the solidity he brought to our defence i haven't said he did that either. I said for Sharp playing alongside someone like Martin it will improve his positional awarness and defensive attributes. I never said this happened on sunday, I'm saying it will happen over the course of the season.
Everyone was shaking off the cob webs at the weekend hence defensive frailties and timing issues in attack. The right hand side will be stronger this season with Martin in there then it was last season and, I think Sharp will improve no end due to playing outside Martin. Soon as Martin came onto the field he was talking to Sharp directing him telling him where he wanted him etc. Obviously this is just my opinions, everybody entitled to think what they like but, for me having another voice out there and especially down the right will only be beneficial for both the team and Sharp as an individual.

I wasn't quoting you directly about the Martin thing it is just a general opinion on here since Sunday.
Sorry if it came across that way. I like Sharp and would love to see him do really well but the Martin signing is just a very average one IMO, especially when we could have added Burnett's salary +£60K to it and signed some quality.

Oh don't get me wrong i was totally underwhelmed when i heard the signing, i too was hoping it would a been someone younger with pace and power. Thing is i think he'll do better then a lot of people are thinking. I also think the fact it's only a year is good as we get his knowledge and experience of the game, so he can bring the young lads on. Then for next season either one of our young lads will step up or we can sign someone of the correct stature at centre.
He was a fairly late signing and at that time of year there's not too many good players left wanting a club at that stage. Our main targets fullback scrum half etc had been worked on and looked at for most the season and we got our targets. If we are to sign a centre for next season then the search can begin early and we can sign Mr Right on a 2/3 yr deal. Hopefully one of our youngsters will be closer to entering the fray too.

I agree with that. I hope that Sharp is able to really show that he can be a quality winger but our right hand side didn't look good to me at any time during Sunday's game tbh. Turner is frustrating and Martin is just too slow.
Let's hope that it's too early and that many things are going to improve (a lot)
