I know mate, just thought i'd explain rather than put summat sarcy back and people jumping in getting daft...... Takes all year to get a thread that i know about can't spoil it so soon..
As i say... LG are ok when they're working but they cost a FORTUNE to service. I don't like to slag brands off as it aint my style but in reality there are better brands... Alot more far worse ones tho!!!
It's affordability at the end of the day and there's no shame in buying the best you can afford...

As you may have got the idea, Plasma is the only thing to look at at the 42" and above sector but ultimately it is a brand thing. Panasonic are by far and away the best brand for quality and performance. Which have actually given them this accolade 3 years in a row now.
Not sure what you want from it or where your budget stands but they have some fantastic TVs out at the moment. cod'ead got an excellent model in the G20 but this one is now discontinued and has been replaced by the G30. If you want to step into the 3D market (where you also get superior plasma panel for improved picture quality and 'ultra thin' casing) then look no further than the TXP42GT30. It it the recently crowned 'TV of the year' along with 8 other Panasonic products rlSEE HERErl

Brands to avoid really other than the obvious supermarket branded sheittte, are (and i know they've been mentioned) but LG, Philips (though they're pulling out of TVs anyway), lower end Samsung models and Toshiba really.
Let me know if you need any prices or any assistance.

Cheers. 3D's a waste of money for me. Don't really want to go over 500 notes as I only watch TV and the odd DVD. I'll have a look at what's around. I see richer sounds do 5 year warranties for 10% of the screen price

I bought a top of the range 37 LCD (wanted more for games) Panasonic, late 08 and it is class.
My missus has a 50 Samsung PLasma, and images burnt on it (still a good picture mind) but I think it depends on what the main use is for I guess as to what to buy (and the size of course)'"
The 37LZD80? I got that one in a similar timeframe, very happy with it.

I wasn't sure between the 80 and the 85 when I was getting ours, but I couldn't find an 85 in stock with anyone at the time, I only found it online. As far as I could see the only differences were 100hz on the 85 and £80 extra for it, and then I read a piece that said about people's eyes varying so that they see refresh rates differently. So I decided to compare 2 other TVs where the only difference was the refresh rate and for the life of me I just could not tell the difference. Thought I might as well get the 80 after that.

Correct the 85 was just the 100hz version of the 80... That's all... The 800 had a better screen and a few other bells and whistles.. I've still got a TH50PZ700 plasma which is 4yrs now and still going strong.. awesome tv and a TXL37G20 in my bedroom.

That seems a very good deal. What's best to look at in the 32inch range thats around the 300.00 range? I quite fancy something bigger in the bedroom. That wasn't a double-entendre. Genuine question I've been to Comet and there's a few options around 270.00 - maily Samsungs/LG's and Toshiba's. Dont need a great spec as it will only get moderate use.

Seems like a good deal. You got anything else/better for a bit more?
Also, still a bit concerned about burn in with plasma as I have a wife and 2 kids who are fond of leaving the sky box paused for hours or leaving the wii/xbox in the menu

Looks dated already. You need to look at the new Samsung D series LEDs with a 5mm bezel. They look stunning, albeit at a price!

At the minute you'd be looking around £350 for a 32" Panasonic at the minute (with a 5 year warranty) but i could probably get a little more off that if you aren't in such a rush.
