We tried during the close season but couldn't get who we wanted. When the Wakey situation came up we took advantage. It's one of the few things this season that I don't really have a problem with. And in any case Obst has been available for the vast majority of the time Long's been out.
It's a non issue IMO.

Well the fact we struggle to score with the ball in hand suggests it is a problem.

| Quote: Cherry.Pie "The Sam Tomkins try was fine, when a player is sliding the tackle is complete at the point where the players stops sliding so he's entitled to reach out and score.
if that was going for'"
No your not, if that was sliding forward and elbow is on ground amd player has a hand on, if player then reaches out its a second effort.
As far as i could tell Tomkins elbow was on ground and a Hull player had a hand on , so tackle complete for me.

On the flip side, it looked like Horne knocked on before the Turner try. We also had a huge penalty count advantage.. can't blame the ref tonight.'"
If Horne touched the ball he was pushed into it and then tackled without the ball.

| My gripe with Thaler tonight is his inability to sin bin anyone. In the last 5 mins of the 1st half he must have penalised them 3 or 4 times for professional fouls. No warnings no sin bins. That is inexcusable for me.
Our penalty count was massive though and we failed to capitalise. Its not even as if we went close. Its was easy for Wigan at times to defend. We lack composure. We lack skill, guile and the ability to control the game. We only have one set move and frankly we are at best average on attack. This has been a problem now since 2006 that's 5 years. We have had changes in personnel but still have the same problems. Its awful.
Ok we have had hb problems. Someone said we tried to get someone but it never came off in the close season. Why are we struggling to attract the right calibre of player? I bet my entire mortgage its because of the coaching set up here. As such the longer he stays the longer we will miss out.
Yes we can't fault effort tonight but Wigan should have been finished off. Effort is not good enough alone and that is why so many of us are so p@@@@@ off.

| Quote: Black and white legend "Tomkins first try IMO was a double movement
Obst disallowed try Wigan player fell off the tackle
Richards second try markers not standing square at play the ball- should have been Hull penalty
General performance od Thaler/Ganson awful'"
You need to watch again on SKY. Tomkins first try was obviously OK on the replay, he never stopped moving forward. Obst himself seemed very unsure about his try the look on his face gave the game away.
There was also a quite big penalty count in favour of Hull. The officials had quite a good game overall but I know how it never seems that way when you are at the game.
For Wigan this game was sandwiched between 2 quite massive cup ties and they were vulnerable. It was very much a game they could have done without. Hull had a good stab at it but made some real bad errors especially the pass to no one from Jordan Turner near his own line. O'Meley made some howlers also. As always these are the places to look rather than the referee.
Sam Tomkins what a player. For a while (Tomkins off the pitch) it was like maybe Hull can do it. As soon as he came back on you knew they wouldn't.

| Thought the video decisions got them right. The problem with the officiating tonight was not dealing properly with the interference at the ptb. Wigan should have had a man binned to put a stop to it, they got away with far too much. The 'contentious' decisions being discussed, however, were called spot on and we can have no complaints.

| I had a problem with the try coming from the Turner pass. The ref calls held, clearly, then Wigan have a significant 2nd effort on Phelps, from the ptb they score.
It should have been a penalty.

I couldn't understand that. Usually, if any part of the ball carrying arm touches the ground whilst the defender is touching the player results in the tackle being complete at that point

| feel sorry for phelps, that is the luckiest ball bounce i have seen yet, also turner looked heartbroken after he threw that pass but you could see with the effot he put in after he was determined to make up for it, think he scored a try aswell so well done lad, starting to look like a decent centre if he keeps getting game time there, not a fan of moving players around unless your richard whiting

| Whats the exact rule on that?
As far as I'm aware if your arm keeps moving its fine.
Got to admit though that Tomkin's two tries were class and that one player was the difference tonight.
