| Quote: Standee "Swain had far superior distribution than Houghton, imho.'"
And Swain without doubt had and was given superior coaching than Houghton has ever had at Hull.
Unfortunately for Houghton to progress his game and reach his full potential he will have to leave unless we see a full clearout of the coaching staff and a quality coach and set up brought in.

Indeed, and this is a MASSIVE concern I have about Hull FC, we seem set to ruin what talent a lot of our youngsters have by retaining poor coaches at all levels.

| This could be a blessing in disguise, very average player around the acting half.
Must be a wind up,no one in the NRL would seriously consider him?

Can't disagree at all. You only have to look at how many of the top teams in SL have their youngsters out on loan to other SL clubs. We are years behind on that front.

| Of course he will and should leave if he wants to better himself.
The career of most professional sportspersons is very short and they have to maximise their earning potenial. Hull FC have kept him and other local born players on shoe string wages whilst paying others with bigger names and reputations, super star wages. I bet Hull have attempted to sign him for an extension and I bet it was for a whole lot less the Berrigan was on. If he has stuck an early release request in it will not have gone down well, but what can they do if a player wants to leave.
Release him early, with a clause GIVING FC FIRST REFUSAL ON HIS RETURN.

Yep...and as we know FC want him to sign an extended contract but he has refused, can hardly blame him for the insulting money they have paid the kid!

It's a sad state of affairs when we'd rather fly an ageing Aussie over and all of the associated costs that entails, than pay someone like Danny what he is actually worth.
Wouldn't blame any player for moving on to increase their earnings, it's not as if win bonuses and silverware are likely with FC.

| If he wants to go I have no problem whatsoever with that. Should make sure we get a fee if he leaves early though.

From what I've seen his distribution close to line has been very good, especially his face ball.
He'd have to start as back up at a club but good luck to the lad.

To be fair, surely one of the main reasons to foster home grown young talent, is the fact that they are cheaper, whats the point in putting years of training into a player if they are going to cost the same as just buying in the talent

I don't think anyone is saying we should be paying the kind of money we do for imports, but the kind of money being talked about for Houghton is not what he is worth, especially with what we are apparently paying some other, less valuable/important, players.

Not sure about that, I doubt very much Wigan, Wire, Leeds are Saints underpay their local lads, hence the loyalty of the players and why most stay....Berro was at the time we had him the highest paid import yet he was far from the best performing import..Players should be paid what they are worth.

| Has money got anything to do with it?
Horne and Yeaman get a fair whack, some even say over paid, so we do look after them if their up to it.
