Long will walk straight in to the team, which would be a shame for obst,as he and horne, worked well together last week, but he is our number one SH,so unless he decides he isn't fit then it's a cert!!!As for Phelps, trained today(apparently),probably tomorrow, friday off, then training on saturday, which means i expect him to play.

| Sadly I think you are right Jimmy. Long has done nothing to merit being back into the starting 17 at the expense of Obst but it will happen.

| dont think it matters wether long or obst plays scrum half, from a team point of view ,it makes a nice change to be in a position where we have 2 good options at 7.

Just not good enough for me and never gonna be imo. I'm still hoping he proves me wrong but I'm not seeing any signs just yet. I think if you watched him during a full game you would maybe see how deceiving highlights can be.
I think maybe one of his downfalls were that some have over hyped him on here after playing 2 friendlies which if I'm been honest he wasn't great in either. His speed of thought is far too slow, whether it be when were attacking or defending. He defence is not up to much at all and he puts players around him under pressure because of it. He's a big unit and looks the part but I never believe he's capable of beating a man when he has the ball.
Yeaman dropped a couple of balls in the last home game but has started the season well imo and anybody who seriously thinks Turner is a better centre than him are way off the mark for me.

| If Long is fit, I would put him back in the halves with Horney and play Obst off the bench interchanging hooker with Houghton. Harsh on Turner getting dropped as he has played well, but I want Phelps at FB and Whiting at centre for the duration of the season. No more swapping around! I would go:
1. Phelps
3. Whiting
6. Horne
7. Long
9. Houghton
Bench: Obst
18th Man: Turner
Still unsure if Longy will be fit, though.

| Why does Long come straight back in, his contribution so far this season has been incredibly little.

Obst's try was Lauaki to Moa to Obst, nowt to do with Turner, and if you are reffering to Yeamans try v crusaders then it was Manu who made the break to get us on the front foot.
I don't mind Turner but he just isn't quick enough mentally IMO and doesn't play what's in front of him, both in attack and defence. It seems that if he's told to stand in a certain area when defending he will do it regardless of how the attacking team are playing. He's the same with the ball, he'll have a play in his mind and he will carry it out whether it's on or not. He needs to learn to play with a bit more freedom IMO.

I agree with you. I like him but have always had concerns he doesn't possess a football brain, this is especially obvious when we need him to play at 6...not sure you teach that either.....you've either got it or you haven't.
Still, like I say he's a decent squad player and a big unit, so can defintely do a job for us.....just wish his plays were not so telegraphed.

He also seems to be less aggressive in defence when playing against better opposition , Leeds last year away and in the cup were prime examples. probably a confidence thing but he looks overawed somehow.
If Long's fit then he's got to go in because we then get to a point where most players are playing in their correct positions ( notwithstanding Agar logic ) and the two "weakest" players , Washy and Turner , drop out completely. There is also then some pressure on Long to perform with Obst having done well there already. Maybe he needs that?

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

My view is that Sean Long now has to 'fight' to regain the scrum-half position. Just having a fitness test is not good enough.
Like many who have posted, I believe that Richard Horne and Sam Obst had a good game playing together on Friday night. They should be given more time together, in order to get a close and understanding partnership.
In my opinion the scrum half position is for Sam Obst to loose. Richard Agar amy give consideration to using Sean Long from the bench [taking into consideration his age etcetera] though that may not be everyones 'cup of tea'
