| Quote: garry brindley "I agree with the underlined part but fundamentally disagree with the rest of your point. It's all well and good having someone like Fitz to enforce discipline in the squad, but that should be supplementary to an overall culture of discipline that is implemented by the head coach. You say you feel sorry for Agar but a lot of these things happen because he is a weak leader who is unable to command enough respect from the players. You'll always get the odd one you can do nothing about like Raynor, but I think a lot of these things that are 'making Agar's job harder' are ultimately caused by his own failings.
Imagine it like when you were at school, you knew with some teachers you could get away with almost anything and with others you respected/feared them too much to misbehave at all. Now I know you may say that Agar took firm action with Tansey and indeed he did, but there are some 'teachers' with whom Tansey would never have considered doing the stuff he did.
The other thing is that Agar has already blamed his squad once when he had the clear-out. I agreed with a lot of the players he got rid of, but I disliked the
way he was effectively allowed to write-off a whole season because he was incapable of working with the squad he had. Every player in the current squad has either been signed or re-signed by Agar, he can't be allowed to blame the players again.'"
They are all good points and hard to disagree with. However, a strong culture in within a club has got to be developed by all of the leadership team and experienced players and then bought into by everybody else. It isnt just the job of the head coach, especially if he isnt comfortable as a strong disciplinarian. For instance i thought thats why Dennis Moore was brought in last season. James Webster is a frightening disciplinarian which is the reason Sean Long doesnt get on with him. Perhaps he should be given more responibility in this area to allow Agar to concentrate on his strengths?

| According to one of my Hull supporting pals , Agar's strength is putting the training cones out in a straight line.

There needs to be a response from the players. The fans will then responds to that. I'm not going to boo the players at all but I'll be very disappointed if the effort isn't there

Maybe that would work, but aside from being a decent scout I'm really not sure what 'strengths' Agar has to concentrate on.
ATEOTD we've had 3 years of Agar trying to get the formula right. We've had a 'back to basics' pre-season training one year and modern techniques the next. We've had the write-off season and the 'Season of Promise'. We've had the squad clear-out and we've had the 'continuity' off-season. We've had 3 different assistant coaches and spent three different transfer fees. We've tried 'aiming up', 'raising the bar' and 'having more smarts on the island'. He's had more time than any coach of a club of FC's size could reasonably expect, and not once has he even managed to equal the achievements of his immediate predecessors.
We've tried pretty much everything except replacing the Head Coach, it just makes no sense to allow him even more time to play around with the management structure. Especially when there's an opportunity to replace him with someone who has a proven track record of turning around under-achieving clubs waiting on the sidelines.

| I know i must seem like im agars publicist but how often is it the case that if a team wins then well done to the players but if a team loses then its all down to bad coaching. It wasnt agar dropping balls and giving penalties away in the last 2 games. I dont know what his coaching is like but he seems to be on the ball after what he and his players have said. Saying that im getting tired of underperforming and maybe a new coach is the solution

PR is all well and good, but there comes a point, when you've not won a play-off since 2007, and show few signs of mounting a serious challenge for a 4th consecutive season, that you take what is said with a pinch of salt because it's disconnected from what is actually in evidence on the field.

| Quote: garry brindley " Agar is being judged by the fans on the three years he's had in charge, to try and pretend otherwise is really a bit of an insult to the fan's intelligence.'"
I disagree, I think he's been judged on the last 10 years. Many Hull fans seem to be stuck in 2006, and think we should still be contesting finals, in reality we are not a top class side anymore, we are a side in a building phase. Agar took over the job when the side was a total mess and as far as I can see he has made steady progress whilst he's been charge. Nobody can deny that last year was a leap forward regardless of how we finished and he hasn't been given a chance yet as far as this season goes.
Fitzgibbon isn't thick, he's played for the top coaches in the best teams in the world and knows what makes a good and bad coach, he also doesn't strike me as being a liar so when he says Agar is respected and he believes in his methods I have no reason to doubt him. Let's see how we're doing at Easter and decide then whether or not he can take us any further.
