Seem to have caused a bit of a barney here, sorry about that.
I just found this picture of Sterlo in a home Shopacheck sponsored Umbro kit but can't find one in an away kit.'"
Bit of an odd one, this.
That is, of course, Peter Sterling. That photo was definitely taken during the John Player Trophy semi final versus Leeds in at Boothferry Park in January 1985. I have the programme from the Final in front of me and it has several photos from the semi, including that one. Prior to that we didn't have a sponsored shirt - I've flicked through a few programmes from that season and there is a photo from a game against Featherstone in December 1984 which shows no sponsors on the shirts.
We started wearing the ABI Caravans sponsored shirts later in the January, so it appears that the Shopacheck was a very brief shirt sponsorship in 1984-85.

| I live just 10 minutes from where the 29th November auction will be held.
If anyone is interested in any of the items and would like someone to proxy bid in person as opposed to leaving a bid with the auctioneer or online bid let me know. I'll be happy to bid up to your max and can either post them to you at cost or bring the items up with me around christmas on my next visit back to Hull.

| [sizeWhat the same Kevin Dick that had dark brown hair & a moustache (front row, 2nd from left????) you can also clearly see Steve Evans in the photo who finished playing for Hull in 1985
The away shirt from the 1959 Wembley final till 1982 was thishttps://www.oldrugbyshirts.com/img/season_shirts/hull-fc-alternative-away-rugby-shirt-1982-to-1993-s_550_1.jpg" >
The Shopacheck Sponsored the team 1983/4 and part of 1984/5 as per the photo above(which is the shirt being sold)
Then ABI sponsored the team from 1985 and the away shirt was
Then Shopacheck sponsored the team again with a similar shirt to that being sold from about 1989 but it was made by "Matchwinner" not Umbro[/size

| Been 100% serious (not taking the pee), do you ever still get people wearing Hull Sharks shirts/merchandise at games? Just looking at that website of Hull's shirt history, and to be fair to the club the Sharks name/logo was up there with the better names during that re-branding era of the 90's (i.e. a hell of a lot better then Blue Sox for example). Both the shirts from 97 don't look too bad when you see them on there now.

| Was just thinking the same myself Roofs......those Sharks shirts have a certain appeal!
Funny how things work out though.....some of those names have really stuck in th SL era.....Bulls and Rhinos spring to mind.
Maybe its time we reverted back to sharks?

Well that's it, I've seen it knocked over the years, but it was probably the most suitable (and fashionable) nickname they could have without totally breaking away from the area's tradition (i.e. the fishing link). If I was a Hull fan I'd probably wear one from that era every once in a while just for a change, esp one of the 97 season which was the club's finest moment for six years at that point.
Fair dues though I can see why people were annoyed with the 98 home shirt at the time, probably the shirt which least remembles a Hull home shirt ever really.

I think not !
Steve Evans never played for Leeds !!
Mick Crane is on there though, which means this photo must be around 1978.

I think he means in the Hull/Sterling photo, mate. Someone else confused Dick (dark hair/moustache) with Sterling (blond/clean shaven).

| Quote: FC DAZE "Im going from memory mate and as soon as I saw that photo I thought it was Kevin Dick, for what its worth I Still Do.Bit chunkier than Sterlo.
Can't recall Sterlo ever wearing a Shopacheck shirt,if you go on our website in the fanzone check out the Wallpapers, there is one of Sterlo,He is wearing an ABI shirt in one and no sponsor on the other.Seeing as how he only played for us for a season and eight games find it hard to believe he could play under three different sponsored shirts.
Kevin Dick signed for us in 86 so all the same players will have been there who played with Sterlo .'"
One of the other players in that photo is sat here laughing, it is definitely Sterlo in that picture.

I've still got a Hull Sharks match worn shirt at home along with a shed load of training gear.
