I think he was going to try and put him over for the drop out, then realised he was too far out and put him down.

Shaun made it look a hell of a lot worse by extending his legs high in the air to emphasise the angle he was at.

The touch judge must've thought the same or he'd have either walked or at least been put on report.

Was it silly, yes.

Was he really trying to break his neck, not a chance.

Thought he had no chance. 3 against 1 and he came out on top. He probably won't make a bigger tackle in his career.

Exactly what I thought!!

I said on another thread, the way Briscoe went into the tackle tipped the balance, and when he kicked his legs to try and get up it made Lauaki lifting him hard to avoid. He just put him back down again, no fuss. If it hadn't been for the fact that he'd tried to gain ground it arguably might not have even been a penalty.

Looked far worse than it really was.

Agreed, it was not even slightly bad. Penalty yeah, but not in the slightest malicious, put him down like a baby!

If you listen on Sky you hear (from the referee's mic) that he did not penalise him for the tackle, he penalised him for retaliation. He says something like "you picked him up into a dangerous position but then you put him down again - no problem with that"
