| In fact you ing idiot I'll take your moronic ramblins futher.
Berrigans contracted with hull so if we wanted to get rid we'd have to pay his salary off, let's guess £130,000 (some will say more)
cameron smith currently earns $500,000 a year (before third part payments) that's £300,000. And that's before we have to compensate the loss of Queensland and australia jerseys.
So that's at least £430,000 for his first season. And that's if Melbourne release him.
So clever? No, just a realist.

more to the point Hooker isn't a priority IMO Berrigan/Houghton are 2 of the sides better performers when fit.
its no7 and centre were the biggest issues lie.

cartoons/WB17.gif I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011.

| Posted on this subject earlier in the week (think it was on the "Last chance saloon" thread).
If we were looking at assembling a squad of players capable of mounting a genuine sustained challenge for the top spot, then the only players I would take without reservation are Fitzgibbon, Manu, O'Meley & Whiting. Each of these has shown throughout this season that they are capable of making a significant contribution to any side in Super League.
Long, Berrigan & Horne have, in the past, played at the very highest level. Whether they still can, given their injury/fitness problems, is debatable.
The various youngsters within our squad have the potential to be top class players, but I have a horrible feeling that under the current regime, that potential will be squandered. There are already signs that the likes of Briscoe, Houghton and especially the much maligned Hall are not developing as quickly as we all hoped and in some cases (Hall) are going backwards rapidly.
This leaves the vast bulk of the current squad, and as I repeated in the earlier thread, I just don't believe they are up to it anymore, certainly not at the very top end of the game. The cumulative effect of three years of losing on a regular basis further exacerbated by a clueless/directionless coaching regime has reduced a collection of decent (if not exactly outstanding) players into an ill-disciplined rabble seemingly incapable of carrying out even the most basic aspects of the game.
Even with a complete revamp of the entire coaching staff, starting with a Head coach who has bright, fresh ideas in tune with the modern game, I have my doubts that the playing squad as it stands can now compete at the very highest level. Too many players have become psychologically scarred by the last two years and their confidence levels have erroded to such an extent that deep down they no longer believe in themselves.
The appointment of a top class coach would certainly improve matters, but there are some serious issues which need to be addressed regarding the current playing roster before we can contemplate witnessing laps of honour around Wembley or Old Trafford.

By now I mean as soon as possible, whether that be by releasing now, not renewing contracts, granting early releases, accepting transfer fees, anything.

Presumably berrigan would have commanded a similar size of contract before he left Oz? In his prime, SOO and National regular. Do you really think he signed for us for £130k?

I reckon he's on £150k plus, same with Long.

Totally agree, two half backs and a centre is needed, however what is available made your bed comes to mind. this should have been priority last year, too late now me thinks.

while a international berrigan wasnt the top paid player at brisbane, I doubt he was in the top 3 tbh. At the time lockyer was on a reported 400k which was about 160k in pounds.
Berrigan came to the uk because of the offer of a 4 year deal and a easier time on his body.
When he came the pound was very strong now it's weak
Smith is in his prime hence the 500k a season, which is now 302k pounds.
