Karoo mid, for my postcode with adsl2 they say i can get upto 12mb

I use the Belkin N1 Vision its got an LCD display on the front telling you the upload and download speeds im getting

not sure if this is Karoo though, id presume it is, but going through to our remote desktop servers, so they might help the speed up

They had the speedtouch a while back but that was just a usb modem AFAIK. They then introduced the Thomson 585 usb modem/router all in one. It does the job but you get some terrible results with it.

As for Solinus

Cisco is about the best you can buy but they are expensive.

Belkin are godawful nowadays they have really gone downhill

Netgear are the best low cost routers on the market and what 90% of home users are now using.

I'm on the unlimited option 3 package.Not sure how far from the exchange I am I think its about 3 miles away in North Cave. In terms of home hub I have the white vertical unit (not at home so can't look for the manufacturer) not the latest black gloss one. I think its down to peak times as I went on this morning and got 5.3mb download but between 4 and 8 all I can get is the paltry 1.3 to 1.5. BT say they don't prioritise usage like karoo (hence the benefit of a gamer profile). Still waiting on the accelerator plate to arrive and try that.

A colleague of mine reported a long series of calls to Karoo when he first got his broadband installed but only recieved dial up like connections. Eventually the help desk suggested he try removing his sky box from the phone line which resolved all issues. Just a hint for anyone on Karoo.

Ask him to contact their technical dept and ask for a "pair" changeover, it may improve the job for him, the pair he is on now may be as you say copper and old or wet but there are fibre in that area I believe
