A bit before my time but legend has it that Hull almost signed the Welsh RU all time great JPR Williams.
He was also a surgeon and was set to work at HRI.
Not sure why ir didn't happen though.

Didn't we nearly sign Ryan Giggs' dad, Danny Wilson, think he went to Swinton in the end. Wonder if City would of picked Giggs up, would of been a waste of a great talent.

Andy Gregory round about 1982/83
According to everyone in the City it was a done deal with a job lined up for him at Crest Hotel (he was a qualified chef allegedly). I'm still waiting for the announcement to be made.
This was at the same time that we made numerous attempts to sign John Woods from Leigh. What a pairing they would have made.

Remember this well , being a young lad living around the Airlie Street area and alway in the ground doing odd jobs , sweeping stands -painting-cleaning boots-trying to shoot pigeons on the top of the 3p stand,Honest !!!. I witness a mini make-over of the main entrance . A full coat of gloss -the windows to the offices +broadroom cleaned -all the old rubbish was moved out of site ,there were even Flower tubs put inside the main Airlie strret entrance !!!!. The word was JPR was coming to sign for us . At the time he was a surgeon in Cardiff hostpital + his wife was a anaesthetist in a hostpital in Wales .The club had lined up jobs for both .
They were due around mid-day on a monday , The club got a phone call to say they wherent coming at around 3 pm . At least we may have got the money back on the flower tubs + the windows did need a clean. Happy days |
