If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...: |

Frankly neither anywhere good enough for SL centre.
Whiting just not showing enough of the footballing ability & creativity we all think he's got. Clearly not powerful enough to play 13.
Horney offers true versatility covering several positions, defensively sound & powerful enough to survive.
Both journeymen IMO, any shirt number below 18 next season & more than a dozen appearances for either expect a similar season to this !
If both sign................................'"
I agree totally with that.

Very good post. I've always liked whiting but he doesn't look to me like he will ever be a 1st team regular (when everyone is fit) and players of that ilk at his age should move on to a club where they will be. Same goes for horne. If we were more ruthless with this type of player then we'd have a much better 1st choice 17. We should have a policy where any player not in our 1st choice 17 is under 23. Anyone over that age and not a 1st choice player should be released

| Whiting signed for Hull as a stand off with a very good pair of hands, kicking game and rugby brain in general. Hull turned him into a centre and he played there through a very successful period for the club.
I liken Kyle Briggs at featherstone to Rich in that he is a tall talented ball handling half back who could go far in the game.
unfortunately as super league has developed I do not think that Whiting is now the centre that we need. can he play loose forward? Maybe given the chance but behind Washy for mine. Can he go back to been a stand off?

| Whatever anyone may think about Whiting's credentials as a first choice centre or loose forward, I don't see how anyone with half a brain can say we should get rid of him. Even if he doesn't make the first 17 when everyone is fit, how often is everyone fit?
In the modern game, you need quality cover in case of the inevitable injuries that will be sustained over the course of a season. Whiting can step into centre, half back, or the back row and do a very good job there.
I also believe that, if we had a dominant pack, decent half backs and a proper defensive pattern, Whiting would make an excellent centre as he has done in the past.

Look Rich, we all like you, just that some of us feel a change of club might be the right thing for you

| When we've had so many poor players this season, and such a problem with lack of effort, I can't for the life of me see why anyone would want to get rid of one of the few players who has played consistently well and has always given 100% effort.

[quote="Wellsy13":1juz9zgo]To us REAL fans, there's no better feeling than winning competitions. Getting to a final is next. Then a top 6 finish or semi-final appearance. Then I suppose the derby counts as the most important league fixture.
Us real fans don't look over our shoulder at our neighbours and do whatever we can to get one over on them. We look at the bigger picture. And this is the reason why Rovers are and will forever be considered a small club. Because their fans and board would rather get one over on Hull FC above anything else.
Quite sad, really! [/quote:1juz9zgo]

No he's not, we've conceeded a lot of tries down his side and even against Salford nearly every break they made came from the side he and Richard where defending.

Agreed.
If you ask me, he's one of the best players in our squad. Solid defence, great with ball in hand, reads the game very well, knows where the tryline is, good in the air, the only criticism of his game is his speed, but even thats not as bad as some make out. Not to mention the fact that he gives his all every week, unlike most players. If G.Horne is offered a new contract and Whiting isnt, then it's a disgrace.

Well said if he's not offered a new contract it again speaks volumes about which direction our club is going. He would be top of mine, and most of our lists for players that must be retained.
We cannot keep carrying Thorman though its beyond a joke

To be fair, both sets of 3/4s have been on a hiding to nowt recently having been left exposed by our overly compressed defensive pattern.

He'll always be a great squad player sadly. Victim of his own utility and not a great deal he can do to change that now.

| What amazes me is that everyone admits that this guy is commited every game he plays has good hands and a good rugby brain yet we should let him go.
Is this not what we are missing, the fact he is not been given the chance to show his full potential is down to the coaches not the player.
Are those advocating letting him go the same ones who backed tony over briscoe, great call their.
We need players like him who create problems for defences same as houghton, burnett, maloney, briscoe.
not the Radfords, King, Lee, Cusacks,
All should be shown the door for lack of ability.
