Quote: ICECREAMMAN "Correct , prior to his injury he was outstanding, not the most comfy under the high kick aparently but kick returns are as fast as anyone in SL and he runs like a 7th forward when running into traffic so all round hard case it seems with speed..
fits the bill for me'"

Sounds like Motu

few suggested he was international class, although given time he could have been but not at this stage , possibly not ever now

Looking at some of the players that have played for England the last couple of years. it's quite clear you dont have to be brilliant to play for England.

Yeah aparently when clearing the line into trafic he is exactly like motu , just had a chat this morning about him to a pal of mine who is a big wigan fan who told me his biggest atribute is his support play , because he is so quick he supports everything hence he had a great assist stat etc and he is fearless in the tackle but a bit of a hard case so gives a few penalties away whilst trying to prove his point to players he has just buried anmd will take the ball up once every set if required so.... tough, quick, supports well cant be that bad a signing eh??

As our options for FB at International level were very limited at the time you could understand why some fans may have touted Tansey as an option. In reality he was way over-hyped due to our awful level of creativity in other areas. Phelps is a better player, thats not to say he is a world beater or anything but he is an improvement on Tansey IMO.

Gotta say i always thought given a run at FB Whiting could have put his arm up for an international shot but quite sure he will get another chance in the train on squads this year

Quote: Dave K. "Interesting as I haven't seen one post that suggests Phelps is Brilliant.

Phelps didn't have a deal anywhere so i doubt that he will be on that hight a wage, he will be on Ok money.

He didnt really have a choice due to know one signing him and his injuries, this is better than not working at all and allows himself to be put into the shop window for 2012 or earn another contract at Hull.'"

I would genuinely imagine Phelps will be on Peanuts. Apparently he was on a distinctly average wage at Wigan as he came over a utility stop-gap, and since then he's been virtually begging for a club (which I can't understand).

I would certainly imagine he'd be on less than Tansey was, if not significantly less.

As with most positions if Whiting had more pace he could be International class. He is clever enough to play just about anywhere.

Any player who can keep off the pi[is[/is and turn up for training sober would be an improvement on Tansey

I remember Phelps running rings around us at Wigan away in 2009....week before CC Final....was it 66-6 to Wigan?? He was at right centre that day with Calders outside. Recall him and Yeamo having a real physical battle as they were opposing each other.

Can't wait to see him in an FC shirt....if he was British he would have been snapped up far earlier in the off-season.

Your not wrong, the reason he wasnt snapped up was because he has been on our radar via Ogre for well over a month now after many chats with the club via phone, plus i guess it isnt a case that he wasnt wanted elsewhere but most clubs are simply up to their quota which is great news for us and him.
He is a decent player that can play anywhere from 1-7 so will help the team massively...
so many stating he is a tough nut is good for us too, the more teeth we have the better in what will be a tough season for all clubs
