If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...:

Quote: Mild mannered Janitor "Not really a surprise when you consider that tickets were £8.

11k*£8

More to it then takings on the day though isnt there?

The bigger crowd may have added to the motivation of the Giants team who played very well yesterday and how many 'new' fans who only went because it was so cheap will see that performance and come back for more? A few I reckon.

If it puts another 1k on their next few home gates that must be a positive.

doubt many would've been new fans, probably fans who bought hudds season passes when they were £60 and didnt bother re-newing when they went back up!

Perhaps and it's a distinct advantage that they beat leeds with the extras in the ground. I suppose the impossible question is, how many would have turned up at £10 or £12 per ticket to get the optimum return?

Our friends across the dark side only managed 4k fans so our attendance looked quite good compared to them.

They'll probably run some line out that because our stadium holds 25k they still had a better turnout because theirs was half full. Or something.

Right here, the atmosphere yesterday was electric at times and certainly gave our players a lift compared to the usual 6-7000 we have. There were plenty new or very casual fans i knew of there too.

BTW it was only £8 for tickets for the 1st week of sale. Was £16 on the day.

Friday night K.O. is not good for many fans, particularly those with a 200 + mile round trip to attend.

Please Mr Pearson have a serious think about it.

Anyway good result for the Black + Whites

I think all clubs could do better with new technology when it comes to ticket sales.

with the new barcode system we have, it should be as easy as paying for your ticket via a mobile phone app (and then scanning the barcode from the phone screen for entry) or buying the ticket online and printing a voucher (with barcode) off.

Instead people are still having to go to the ticket office, phone up, or buy online and collect at the ground or get the tickets posted...the same as they were doing 10 years ago!

for some I think the inconvinience of having to buy tickets in this way is a factor in deciding to go to cup games or not.

I was only thinking about this last week. My season card has a number on the bar code - surely not beyond the realms of possibility for a cup ticket to be loaded on to the season card number by a phone call to the ticket office?

Admittedly I don't have a 200 mile round trip, but its 120 miles. We are in the vast minority who have that commute. Fridays have given Hull some fine attendances (15k v London in 2009 springs to mind). Personally I can't see why the challenge cup games are not as well attended, especially when it's two SL teams. It's not like there is a dearth of competitions like there was in the 80's

Cheap tickets are not the answer from any sustainability POV. Hudds may well have got 11k on Sat but from their own attendances even after giving free tickets away for everyone (their Leeds game in 2007) the following week against the league leaders Saints the attendance was below their average for the season.
Hudds got a 10% increase in attendances with their £50 season tickets in 2012, that was with FREE season tickets for u12s! The 10% increase in no way would have made up for the loss of revenue especially since their 2013 attendances are back down to 6400 average, more than 20% down on 2011..
