I'm suggesting that if stats mean nothing, then Fitz being the highest scoring forward in Aussi history means nothing. Stats define who players are. If someone asked you to to describe Longy, I'm sure one of the first things said would be '3 times Lance Todd Trophy winner'.

no, but if you take his entire stats, runs,tackle busts,tackles etc etc..he will outstrip most other wingers, hence him playing for gb....

Are they? maybe with some context but people will be saying how great houghton and fitz are because they made a stack of tackles yesterday, but they both played the whole 80 minutes. How effective were they overall in the game? How much more impact might they have had if they'd been spelled?

The limited amount of statistical information we see as fans gives very little clue to a player's effectiveness. clubs have access to significantly more information which allows them to build a better picture of player performance
