I think you're massively underestimating the amounts involved. There's plenty of players knocking around the league now on £120k I reckon.

You reckon, so unless you know and willing to say here, we'll work on recent "top" earners at Hull eh?
Again, an example

| Taylor to be confirmed shortly after we play Salford in a few weeks, apparently. Him, Ellis, Paea, Watts, Bowden and Green is decent enough I think.
RE Hodges, awesome player and current SOO, the sort of names we should be linked with. Saw him play a game in the halves last year in his dinner suit, just too good. He's a prize prick, not that it makes any difference. Would like a younger centre though, it's definitely an area we need quality. Strange to think less than two years ago we had a homegrown centre in the dream team, how things can change.

NRL are reducing it to 8. Carney said on sky a while back that he and someone at the RFL were backing plans to reduce it to 6! It'd be utterly ridiculous. As Peter Sterling said, you've got to keep these big guys in the game, that's not the way to go.'"
Weren't we at 6 interchanges in 2002? What's the bloody point of going up to 12 and then working back down to 6?!

It's called a marquee signing, it can hardly call itself 'marquee' if it's the same as the wage others already here earn, can it eh?

I agree. Luckily it was only Carney and someone (who he did name but I can't remember) at the RFL.

I think you missed the point.
I tried to show i might not be about a "signing"
For some clubs it'll be about removing the top earner (perhaps already in the squad) off cap so the rest of the squad can be paid more to retain the squad.
Like we have had to pay a "premium" (according to some) just to secure any player above the likes of Leeds.

I just don't see it working like that. That's definitely the way i'd prefer it to be used, but SL has wealthy benefactors propping clubs up who will just want to sign a superstar mercenary from the NRL. The teams that can't afford it just won't use it, for instance, Wakey aren't anywhere near full cap at the moment so could sign a marquee player.

| How I understood it was that they're voting on two separate rules.
The first is a marquee player exemption, whereby a maximum of £200k count towards the cap, for one nominated 'marquee' player. As an example, we could sign Greg Inglis for £500k a year, but only £200k goes onto the cap. This is the Koukash rule. It'll hopefully see a higher calibre of player come to SL, the next tier of quality than that we have at the moment.
Then there's the home grown player rule, whereby one home grown player who has come through the academy I believe is exempt should they be paid £200k+. So, for example, if HTW turns out to be a world beater, we can pay him what he's worth without it having a detrimental effect on the rest of the squad. It only really applies to those top English players who may have their head turned to go elsewhere, like Watkins, Tomkins, Burgess etc. The club gets the benefit from bringing the youth player through.
Both rules only benefit those at full cap, but my opinion on that is, why should SL be held back by the few clubs that can't afford full cap whilst we see some of our best players leave.

I'd prefer, one day, to see players who are developed in your own academy completely exempt.

| You've got to remember that the whole idea of a salary cap was to prevent clubs from overspending.

There should be a few ways of doing this, maybe similar to a No Claims discount on insurance
Youd need to be clear on grey areas like a player who has only done 1 year etc
