| Quote: Steve0 "I'm convinced with a lot of these signings (Okunbor, Pele, even as far back as Bienek) the club gets sent a highlight reel of a player making some barnstorming runs at reserve grade level, they then ring up the clubs DoR who says "yeah they'll go well in super league" in a desperate attempt to get rid of them and free up some salary cap as no other NRL/Queensland cup team want them, and it gets them off their books...we think that's a good enough level of due diligence and then give them a lucrative 2/3 year deal'"
That's what I do
But yeah, that's not what the recruitment team should do.
Hopefully Myler isn't like that.

| Quote: BP1 "Me too (was about to post the same!).
I think/hope/believe that Pele could still be a decent standard SL player, but probably not with us and certainly not in 2024.
I wonder if he is one of those players who constantly needs kicking up the backside in order to keep him motivated which in turn then gets the best out of him? The current working in environment at Hull Fc is hardly along those lines so, like the bulk of the others, he's just dawdling along, getting paid for his 15 minutes work each week!
It's partly his fault, partly the coaching staff's fault, but underpinning all this is the ethos/attitude/culture/ call-it-what-you-will that has been running right through the club for too many years now and which is the real cause of out problems.
In many ways, Pele is a microcosm of everything that is wrong with the club. An unwillingness to work, an inability to get the best out of what we have at our disposal, a refusal to confront fundamental underlying issues which continue to stifle any hope of the club moving forward.
Franklin Pele certainly has to take some personal responsibility for the fact that he clearly is not doing the job, for which he is paid well, to a satisfactory level. But the club must also stand accused of failing to provide an environment which makes players want to better themselves and give their all in the common cause.
It would be interesting to see how Pele, and indeed a number of other under-performing players, would respond to a strict disciplinarian regime at the club, a shape up or ship out kind of attitude across the board. I suspect we will never find out in his case, unfortunately.'"
Great post. I've spoken many times about the culture (or whatever word people want to use) at the club and when you think about it Pele epitomises so much about everything that is wrong at the club at the moment.

| we've had no one at the club who has any current knowledge of the aussie game hence we rely on player agents and inevitably get stiffed. I saw a post on twitter a while back from motu tony offering to help - I'll be no one at the club contacted him.
This is one of the reasons I'd prefer a coach from australia

| One match man for Lane, think we can use the reserve game this weekend, although I can't say I'm that bothered.

There's no ban, it's just a £250 fine. Also, Ese'ese under review for the on report incident.

Says how well coached London are but the reason we lost wasn't down to poor coaching. Fark me'"
trying to tell us that a flat attacking line with no depth like a defensive line is not down to coaching?

You think we will go with just two centres next season, Scott and Carlos out (Mitch probably too) and only bring in Hardraker?

| Quote: Roam Ranger "Someone asked if we had hit rock bottom a few pages back? You'd like to think so but I think that will actually come in the next few days when we learn what the on report incident was. Last thing we need right now is a player copping a ban for a derogatory slur of some kind (although whoever it is will deserve everything they get if they are guilty).
We were well beaten by a part time team today. And well done London because they deserved that. They looked so much better organised than we did, had a game plan, played as a team, and simply wanted it more. You would genuinely think that it was us that are the part time team. And we might as well be. I'm not even sure they even deserve to be called the word "team" right now. All those improvements we had been seeing since Grix took over, all those slight changes we'd seen in attitude, defence etc... the stuff suggesting we were maybe, just maybe, turning a corner... well, none of it was on show today. That was as bad as anything we were serving up under Tony Smith. Maybe even worse.
If Grix had any hope of getting the job permanantly, he needed a win today. Feels like the players threw him under the bus a bit as they are prone to do. And until we get to the bottom of why they constantly do this, they'll continue to do this. Big job on Myler's hands to turn this around. It certainly won't happen overnight. No wonder he was talking about a seven year plan the other day!'"
seriously does anyone actually think Myler can turn this around given the signings he has made for next season. He wouldnt even be here was it not for the pot of money he brings with him
Asiata was a great start which he should have built on but instead has brought in old experience on the basis that in two years we will have our own younger players to replace them which is a huge mistake given how many younger players from the academy actually make regular S/L players.
people will say give the guy a chance but from what i have seen already and the now reported interest in bringing Abdul and Satae back the club is now a joke
