| Quote ="scarrie"I'm sure they're trying to sign a half in fairness. You offer players all the money in the world but you can make them come.
What the vision for the club over the next 2 years? Steady rebuilding?
That's a tough sell to an NRL player when the usual contract is 2 years.
"Come for two years and help us climb to the heights of mid-table" doesn't exactly sound enticing does it.'"
Get this and the next recruitment cycle right and you could challenge, we did this with our 2015/2016 recruitment.
But I get your point, we just aren't attractive anymore and nedd to use money as a motivation, unfortunately this still doesn't always work like it didn't with Lam.
I was hoping the appointment of Cartwright and the repeat he must have would have some pull.

I'm no rocket scientist but why not pay the fee we was going to pay Salford to a club for a player who we will put on the wages we was going to give to Lam. Obviously if they fit the bill and not just any one.
Quote Or. Was it all hype with Lam knowing he was going to say no.'" That's the feeling I am now getting considering in the article it says about the half back likening it to the Treigh Stewart signing.
Usually try to look at positives. But my word in struggling after recent weeks!'"
Makes you wonder.

| I'd still look at Milford, killing in the Queensland cup and would classed as a high profile signing at a decent age.

Exactly. Despite how terrible we have become next season is a new era with a respected coach and new investment supposedly.
We might not be the most attractive proposition at the moment but I'm sure we should be in for better quality than the reserve competitions.
The fact that we signed one and was strongly linked with another PNG player suggests we may have been over optimistic in filling the last two quota places.

Milford would be a slight risk but if we could get him over here fit and firing he'd be unbelievable and the perfect foil for Abdul. He'd be familiar with Cartwright aswell with his stint at Brisbane.

| It can't be that hard to find players in oz willing to come over and who would improve us. There must be literally 100's of them with so many teams and players over there. salford and leigh have done very well bringing over lesser known players.
I had hoped cartwright would have sorted out a couple of gems for us but seemingly not

I absolutely agree that a decent halfback pairing is key and will make or break the team for next year.
The overall quality in SL feels like its at an all time low and if you get the key positions right then breaking into 6th isn't a massive stretch over the next couple of years.
Just making the point that it's not necessarily as easy as waving a bunch of cash in someone's face.

would certainly hit the club a lot more by tipping more fans over the edge at a time when they need to reward the fans for sticking with them be it as pass holder or corporate sponsor.'"
Dont think it matters what price the club end up selling passes because if the club dont pull out two or three quality signings they will be lucky to sell 5000
Apathy has hit the fans big time and if Saturdays attendance was a true relection of how many were in the ground it would be about 7000

Apart from Asiata all the players he has signed are bang average and in my mind very lazy recruitment.
Like others you could say that they were the only players available but how do you know?
Have you seen the arrival of a quality halfback as its a year since Clifford departed NO
Have you seen the arrival of a quality centre NO
Have you seen the arrival of a big mobile forward eirther front row or second row NO
The fact that it seems that he has passed the buck now onto Cartwright to find us players i dont think he has done very much positive recruitment at all

There's definitely an argument to made that his recruitment thus far has been unsuccessful, especially if its measured against an aim of being a top 6 side next year. Perhaps less so if you reduce those aims slightly.
It's just the lazy comment I found odd, for all we know he has been solidly working 12 hours day contacting every agent in the southern hemisphere but to little avail or he might have been getting unreal scores on Minesweeper and just ringing a couple of blokes in Leigh instead. We have no way of knowing.

No it wasn't. That's why I asked where it was. It was purely about the half back situation without Trueman in it.
Very strange.
So at the minute we were promised 3 marquee players by Pearson.
As if yet only one for next year

asiata and abdul. I'm not worried about how many marquee signings we have, more the quality of player. No point throwing marquee money at the wrong player

I'll be surprised if Abdull is a marquee.
Wakey have a big announcement at 7 tonight. Wonder if it's trueman after the article got edited.

How many times have we had the same post from the same posters
It cant be finished but it has to be several levels up in quality to what is already coming in and i doubt that will happen.
Quite obvious we are struggling at this level

| I don't like the sound of all this letting players go and taking stock/sitting on our hands and waiting to see what becomes available stuff. We need to be proactive and making 'unavailable' players offers if that's what it takes. I know there isn't much out there and even less that would want to come here, but to me it smacks of last seasons and the previous ones late rush to sign what turned out to be little more than mediocrity.

two game Jed
Lets see if he can string a few games together so we cant ignore him
Jury"s out regarding Abdull and a huge gamble by the club
That said if we can find a real running half to work with him and keep him fit then it could come off.
What is obvious especially at Wigan is just how poor our kicking from hand is and Abdull will certainly improve both that and our last tackle option

He should have made a trip to Australia a priority to introduce himself to players and agents especially as he knew we needed a quality halfback but instead chose the easy route and recruit a quantity of average players.
One quality player is far better than two or three average Joes as we will find out next season when we line up with Briscoe,Hardaker and Chamberlain as our first choice backs
