There was one hit he did in the first half which I felt in the west stand.
You could also hearing him barking the orders out at the kick offs.

Quote: tommyfromhull "Are we watching the same Gareth Ellis?

He was a machine agin tonight. Crunching tackles and better again in attack, running off Miller and assisting in tries.

Underwhelming??'"

He/She is a Rovers fan, surprisingly enough.

Debatable. But he did have a tremendous game tonight. He was his usual tackle machine in defence but he also ran some great lines and really attacked the ball. As people have already said coming off Jacob Miller's short balls he was devastating.

I have a handful of heroes in this game. With the exception of Mr Swain they are all back rowers. Mr Gareth Ellis is fast becoming one of them. His form IMHO after 36 years of watching this game is up there with the best at the moment. He will be fantastic for England come WC time (and will be a cornerstone of what promises to be a world class pack) but he is priceless for us and I pray he is lifting the cup at Wembley.

Surprisingly to me Ellis is being widely described as OVERRATED on a pies thread some even suggesting he,s not even in the top 3 english 2nd rowers, hopefully in a months time the pie wiganers will be eating is humble

Quote: little coatsy 112 "I just think he's been a pretty underwhelming player but to be honest it is very hard not to be an underwhelming player with the standards he had in the nrl and the expectations of him before he came. He just isn't the player I thought he would be and In both Derbys this year he did nothing to make me feel anything but he's a underwhelming player! If you compare his stats to someone like chris greens you will maybe think the same as I do'"

Quote: Wilde 3 "he has started to bust holes into defences now as well - i think this in part has been helped with the inclusion of Miller, who knows the lines that Ellis likes to run.

His defence has been impecable throughout. With the amount of games he has missed this year, he should still be fresh'"
I mentioned about 3 weeks ago, that maybe Miller would be familiar with the diagonal lines that Ellis thrives on,and I think wer'e starting to see it now.

Top class lately n getting better n better. Still best2nd row England has.
Pal took his girlfriend last night. She said 'who's that big guy, he's like a snow plow ' ha.
He must be super super fit, cos his levels never drop. Carries stay hard, even pick up when times are hard and defensively n i said this before he came he's the hardest hitter in world rugby. Not eye catching off the feet tackles just every single one is hard hurts the opposition.

His tackling is great. Once he's got them in his hands he rarely let's them go.
