| Quote: ComeOnYouUll "It is amazing. Sharp let himself down with some recruitment such as Maiava and Byrne, but he deserved a longer run in 2008 given what had happened in 2006 and then 2007 despite losing Cooke through no fault of his own. Looking at some at the results under him in 2008 - 29-30 at Saints, 10-11 at Rovers, 28-28 at Catalans he was unlucky.'"
Sharp was punished for a bad half season when prior to that things had been pretty good under him, as you point out he had some pretty strong mitigating factors - where was the club's formidable spin machine then?
The widely accepted story goes that after Kath sacked Sharp she had an epiphany that hiring and firing coaches wasn't the way to go, so the next man she put in charge was going to get all the time and support she could possibly offer, and it's simply unfortunate that that man turned out to be Rich Agar. IMO that gives Kath way too much credit, Agar is Kath's golden boy and the job was always going to be his when he wanted it (remember him saying he 'wasn't ready yet' before we got Sharp in?). Sharp was effectively a caretaker holding the fort until Agar felt he was ready to step up, as soon as she had an excuse she gave him the boot and once Agar was installed he was always going to be playing to a completely different set of rules.

If you are not part of the solution then you are more likely part of the problem...: |

Snap! Started going in 1979 and the only period I have not attended home games at least was during the Len Casey reign. My dad used to bring me back a match day program every game during this time in a hope to keep me interested but it wasnt until Brian Smith took over that I was back with him stood at the scoreboard end at the Boulevard.

| I can't remember the Len Casey period (thankfully by the sounds of it).
For me it's a toss up between Agar, Walsh or Tony 'the Tank' Gordon. However given the state of the club off the field and the resources available the worst coach (for the simple failure to reach anywhere near our potential) is Richard Agar......take a bow!!

seriously, just look at the guy, you'd expect to question buying a used car off him, let alone giving him £80k to manage professional RL players.

wasn't it the picture that the HDM used to say there wasn't any icreased pressure after the CC knock out?
Agar has no scruples, professionalism or self respect, otherwise he would have kept his promise and walked, a long long time ago.

| Got to be Agar for me .Purely due to the funds, players and facilities that have been at his disposal . Like previous posters on his thread ,i have been going for 30 odd years now ,and have seen some poor coaches and players in that time too .For some you could make the excuse the club has been in a far poorer state, and resources have been tight so can be forgiven poor performances etc( to an extent ) .Some have just been poor managers of men ,and couldnt get the best out of players ( a catergory Mr Agar certainly falls into ) This is the first time in all those years i have felt like not renewing my season pass , and again like many wont be doing next time around if the current regime stays in position.

I'm not sure which coach it was, but didn't someone (fairly recently) run a marathon to keep the club going? can you imagine Agar doing such a thing, I doubt he can even spell Marathon!

| Royce Simmons did 5 in 5 days i think , so we could get enough cash to bring Des Hasler over . Came over just after finishing his playing career with Penrith . Cant remember how long he had with us( certainly not 4 years ) . Been back to Aus ,and learnt his trade as second in command with Wests .

Ah Greg Mackay. Remember him at the Craven park derby when if we won we could have sent you down as near as damn it. He came on for the warm up clapped the fc fans and you just knew he was saying to himself 'Not today you dont, not today'. Had a great game.
