He said on saturday that the team were playing conservatively and he didn't know why

Lack of confidence.
It is easy for a coach to give the team orders and call the plays, but if the team and individual players lack the confidence in what they are doing they simply will not do it. It is far easier to make the safe play and keep the ball, which ultimately will end in a turn over or a poor positional kick.
It is a play yourself out of it situation which needs wins to build the confidence.
Mental toughness pareto.

Isnt it the Head Coach's job to instill confidence into his players?

| could the problem be that gentle, when he was brought into the aussie set up by tim sheens he was tasked with the defence and dave furner was the offence coach just a thought as our defence has improved but we are still sadly lacking in attack

It is, but I could coach you, lead you, make you believe you could do something, but ultimately it is up to you.
Everything we have worked on in the off season and up to the Leeds game has revolved around the spine of our team and the new signings, most of which are not currently available for selection. Had they been, we no doubt would have been in a better position than we currently are and playing a better style of football.
We have no real strength in depth and are literally playing with last years team who lacked belief, leadership and the confidence to win games.
We can all blame PG or AP as much as we want but building a team does not happen overnight, it is a 2 / 3 year progressive project.

I don't buy into the theory that our defence is that good. Our for and against are both about 8th best in the comp which is pretty close to our league position and around where we're likeley to finish. We're just not as good as some fans like to think we are

Last year's team finished on a high, finished 6th, won a play off game and did ok at wire with a patched up side. This year's team got hammered at widnes with only ellis and watts missing from pretty much our 1st choice 17

What are you talking about? I've just said that this year's team played widnes, and leeds. No team can expect to be at full strength every week

And Holdsworth, swap him for Seymour and I think we would have won that game.

Do people honestly beleive Gnetle is getting the best out of the players available because i feel the players are better than the league position even with injuries?'"
It's knack all to do with the club, it's the coach in question. Noble worked for Bradford, McNamara didn't really come close.
Writing off all assistant coaches because 'it doesn't work at Hull' is nonsense.

Perhaps I should have said "who is realistic and suitable"
Brian Smith is probably close to his 60's by now. Would he really want to relocate to the other side of the planet.
Tim Sheens? Why would he be interested in coming to an serial under achiever of a club?
Anderson, imo is a flat track bully. A bit like Noble. He took a champion team on the crest of a wave.

Plus he's the Director of the refs in Oz now so he's not exactly out of work
