Quote: BP1 "And do you feel that Richard Agar is the man to ensure that Passion, commitment and effort are present and correct in each game we play. Along with a bit of tactical nous, a plan B as back up for when the original game plan is ineffective, and the ability to spot opposition weaknesses and act accordingly. Because I have major doubts that Mr Agar ticks each (or indeed any) of those boxes.'"
He possibly does yes. Im still unsure either way. Sometimes no matter who your playing a plan b wont work. Sometimes the other team is just better on the day no matter how hard we try. For all we know he could give the greatest speaches before the game, have the gameplans in place and back ups incase things dont work, then the players dont quite transfer that onto the pitch.

I think at times people jump on agars back for some defeats, but also get carried away and expect too much with an odd win here and there.

Superleague is a close game now and if your 10% off your game you will more than likely lose no matter who your playing

Quote: BP1 "We're still here, still sending out the message to anyone who will listen that this club should be more, so much more, than it is right now.

Yes, Thursday night was fantastic. Yes, doing the double over our nearest and dearest will always put a smile on all our faces. Yes, we have had a couple of other performances (chiefly Saints) which have cancelled out some of the dross we've had to endure these last two years. Yes, we've improved position wise on 2008/09 (not too difficult).

But, BUT

We are still way way short of where this club should be. A club of our size, fanbase, income streams etc should be at the very top of the game, genuinely challenging for honours year on year (as Leeds & Saints have been), being one of those teams that the rest of the competition look at as the benchmark to aspire too.
We are still short, by some considerable distance, of those lofty standards. And some of us on here believe that we will continue to fall short of our potential whilst the current coaching regime is in place. We should be aiming to progress to a situation which sees this club as top dogs in SL.
However well the team played on Thursday night (and don't forget if Peter Fox had been one stride further forward we may well have lost a game we should have had won by half-time), there are some people on this board (Jake, Uncle Junior, Paul M, Baldy, myself) who are convinced that this club will not reach its full potential under the stewardship of Richard Agar. That is our opinion and I for one still have to see anything which has made me change my mind.

That is the gripe that the non-agar believers have. Richard Agar is not the coach to take us to the mountain top and deliver the success that this group of supporters deserve. And for as long as he remains in place we will be merely treading water/falling short of our true potential.

So, in answer to your original question, the doom and gloomers are still here, waiting for the day when the rest of you acknowledge that we was right all along
Great post mate. I love the club as much as anyone and want success as much as anyone. It's that, and only that, which makes me want to see agar leave and go and learn his trade and make his mistakes elasewhere, and for the club to recruit someone who can takes us to a level agar can't

I've been on the internet and have already got a sense of the fans' passion for the club. They are very fanatical - Peter Gentle 12th September 2011. Money doesn't talk it swears, Obscenity who really cares, Propaganda all is phony. I'm the son and heir of a shyness which is criminally vulgar. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way. Keep the faith Jake, one day they will all see the light and come over to our way of thinking. The few will become stronger as the infidels see the errors of their ways.

though i still dont think hull are a top 3 side yet and have a fair way to go,i think if you look at the bigger picture of super league this season, most clubs are losing games they should be winning.st helens, leeds, huddersfield to mention just three are up and down.the reason hull are 4th is though we are inconsistant so are most other clubs.even wigan have lost more home games at home this season up to now than hull, including a very underpar display against harlequins.this season is very open so to me considering we still havent had a settled half back pairing,to be 4th in the league[ on merit] i think is comendable.we still need more quality in the backs, the attack still looks ponderous at times.but all in all i think we are getting there.

Ironically, you've just hit the nail on the head.

This is precisely the point that we in the non-agar camp are trying to make. Yes, 4th in the table is fine (especially when compared to 11th/12th). Yes, doing the double over both Saints & rovers (in probably the four best games of the season so far) is highly pleasing. But, you're right. It isn't enough for us. Because we believe that this club is more than capable of so much more. Victories over Saints, rovers and the rest should be the norm not the exception. There is absolutely no reason why this club cannot make regular visits to Wembley & Old Trafford over a sustained period of time.

The structure and resources of Hull Fc point towards potentially the biggest club in SL, but those resources are clearly not being transferred into an equivilent level of success by the first team. It is this feeling of settling for second best, of being fourth instead of first which is so frustrating for a section of the faithful. It is the opinion of some on here that one of the reasons for Hull Fc failing to pitch their tent at the very summit of the game is down to Richard Agar. That is our opinion, you disagree I know, but that is what this forum exists for.

Is it wrong for supporters, who follow the club through thick and thin, to want the best, to see their team winning on the biggest stages of all. I reckon that is what Jake was getting at when he says he loves the club. Because we, as supporters expend a large amount of energy on this club. They are interwoven into our lives. The team wins and life is good, the team loses and life is a drag. There are plenty of people in this City whose lives are directly affected by how their chosen team performs each week. Surely we all would love to see a Hull Fc captain lifting a trophy aloft at Wembley icon_razz.gifRAY: or Old Trafford. I'm sure you would just as much as the rest of us. Who knows on that day we may all be friends together group-hug.gif .

I should also point out that where Hull Fc are concerned this is hardly new territory. I am rapidly approaching my 50th year on this planet and in my entire lifetime our club has won 6 major trophies (1 Championship, 2 Challenge Cups, 1 Premiership, 1 JPS Trophy & 1 Floodlit trophy) and for a club of our size that is scant return for half a century.

Now fairly obviously Richard Agar can hardly be held accountable for failed opportunities in decades gone by, but for me personally it is a feeling of deja vu that annoys me so much. We could and should be kingpins of British RL. There is absolutely no reason why this cannot be with the right personnel in place. And I'm afraid it is my opinion (along with others on here) that your friend Richard, decent guy he unquestionably is, is not the man to deliver that success, and therefore this club continues to sell itself short.
And that is why being fourth is still not good enough, sorry.

You see, there you go again, trying to be the big "I am", trying to prove your point. I don't whine about anything. I voice my opinion on agar regularly and have seen nothing in his 2 1/2 year tenure to suggest he's anything but an average coach with an above average salary cap and a team that continues to misfire.

I want to see us win silverware. If he can mange that this season then maybe I'm wrong about him, but if we go out of the play offs with a whimper then maybe I'm not.

Now if you want to come back with an adult response please feel free, but if it's one of your usual childish jibes then don't bother, I have 2 kids of my own

saints, leeds, wire, hudds and to a lesser extent the dobbins have all proven this season they can play good rugby and take opposition teams to the cleaners. We've never looked likely to do it

True, however the ability to rack up points will often mean you win some games you should probably lose

Weekend away for me.
A win in a derby tells you absolutely nothing. Yes the players were up for it (and rightly so) Agar finally changed things (took long enough) but as pleasing as the win was it was still a game we should have put to bed long before the final whistle.
I gave Agar credit for getting things right but lets see what happens on friday when we play a top team. If we perform anywhere like we did at their place we will get mullered, and considering that night we had Longy on the field we still struggled to make chances till the game was dead and buried.
