Perhaps they have a pop impresario who has players working for him from time to time icon_whisper.gif

I heard one club used to pay one of the players wives £30k for some cleaning and I mean we would not use a ferry company or a major medical company to do some behind the scenes " sponsoring" would we eusa_whistle.gif

Most clubs have found ways around the cap to some extent and they always will

Quote: carl_spackler "I thought that loophole had been closed now TBH. I vaguely remember talk about it when Fielden went to Wigan, that's why they had to offload players and pension off SeuSeu, otherwise he'd just have had a peanuts deal for the season he signed and bloated the years after.'"

The issue at wigan was they asked players mid season to change their contractural payments and shift some of it into the following year, thus effectively "cheating" the cap for the year in question. Don't think there is anything to stop a club paying a player different amounts for each year as long as it's done from the outset.

Doubt wire do that as they have had a pretty settled squad. My understanding is that they have made significant use of image rights payments which may land the players with unexpected tax bills

Don't see why that is cheating. As long as the salary for that year has not been breached why does it matter about changing contracts? It's no different to paying someones contract up early or giving someone a pay rise.

I dont think Mathers is as bad as some make out, saying that I would be suprised if Hudds signed him as Cudjoe looks a very good player who has filled in very well for them at FB this year.

I also think Tansey is a better all round player than Mathers.

Dunno, ask the RFL as they're the ones who fined them for it

The RFL found them in breach of the 'spirit' of the cap.

Also this...

Quote: Willa "It emerged yesterday that the Rugby Football League, which had initially blocked that deal until it was given a personal assurance by Wigan's chairman, Maurice Lindsay, that it would not lead to a salary cap breach, would not have allowed Fielden to move had it been aware of the way in which Lindsay would attempt to wriggle off the hook.

The Fielden deal had gone through two weeks after Kris Radlinski agreed to come out of retirement, with Lindsay insisting that money had not been an issue because Wigan were at their salary cap limit.

He did manage to release some players, as he had promised the RFL - notably Kevin Brown to Huddersfield and Dennis Moran to Widnes. But that was never going to be enough, so Lindsay renegotiated the contracts of nine players - including Fielden, only two months after he had signed.'"

The 'renegotiation' was basically 9 senior players saying they'd play for free for three months provided they got upgraded contracts the following season.

I think that is called irony by Raggy. We have clearly not had a fullback since Brisoce left. Admittedly though, our complete success since on the field since that event, it's probably nothing to concern us with.

I think Cudjoe has shown he is capable of the job at full back and it would be a waste of money if Hudds signed Mathers. As for Tansey being all round player better than Mathers, I'm not sure but what I can say is that Mathers is a far better FB. Forget this 'pivot full back' we keep hearing about, dont think there is many in SL who can do that job to the standard required, well not English players.

In some peoples minds mathers will be a better 'full back' than carney but I know who I'd rather have there.

Like I've said tansey just has to stop looking for the big play every time he gets the ball.

Sure there's other things he can improve on but hopefully he'll have it ironed out by finals time.
