sorry i'm just assuming with thackray OOC at the end of they year then that would be his replacement as there has been whisperings of cusack getting a new contract. plus with king tied up for next year too it gives us limited options

Healthy competition! TBH, I think Wheeler has caught Saints by surprise by jumping the gun with regards to development. I don't think anyone expected him to be at the stage he is now until next season - or longer. I'm pretty sure Gidley and Gilmour will be gone next season. Soliola takes one centre spot. Wheeler takes the other.

Ahh right I expected Gidley to stay for another year and then Lyon would replace him.

TBH, I'm not d about Lyon (unlike most Saints fans, who work themselves up into a creamy lather at the merest mention of his name). He'll be nearing 30 by the time his contract is up and no doubt demanding a high salary. I'm not saying he won't be a good player - but I don't think it's a good idea to tie up a ton of money for three years on a player whose best days will probably be behind him.

| The good thing about Long is that he comes with a strong kicking game. Just look at the difference we had in the side in the few games Dykes played last season. He, too, had a good kicking game, and it made a big difference to us.

I tend to agree, if Lyon was to come I would want him now.
Friday will be interesting when Longy runs out

| Wigan and Warrington will both be after a halfback (Warrington maybe two) for next season, at the moment there is only Finch and Orford available for next year, i would bet a lot of money if they want to come to SL, Warrington or Wigan would have beaten us to there signings.
So the Long signing looks very good move by Hull.
I would guess that there wont be a better halfback available than Long for next season.

| Quote: abel711989 "but its the wrong kind of prop. We carry on about our lack of impact then are saying another grafter forward is a good signing.
that saif if we kept moa, thackray, lauauki, dowes, maloney and signed lynch then that gives us good balance in the prop department.
this would mean getting rid of king though'"
I personally think Lynch offers a lot more impact than he seems to be getting credit for. I'd be surprised if there were more than a couple of yards per carry difference between him and Thackray, and he takes it in a lot more. Than there's his offloading game to consider as well. Not just a grafter IMO, offers plenty in attack as well.

Cant see us landing Lyon as someone said he will want a big contract (£££) and i feel he is on the back end of his career but....all the being said....if we did get him then it would be great for him and long to play alongside Raynor and Horne

Tweaked to how I'd have it. If we got Lynch, either him to start and Fitzgibbon to bench, or directly in for Thackray. I do rate Thackray and would like to see him stay, the only reason I initially said I wouldn't mind him leaving was if it was because we got someone of Lynch's calibre.
