Quote: Nobby Nolan "How people can write off Lynn as a full back is beyond me. As far as I know today was his first time playing that position in the first team and he got all of about 20 minutes?

He showed poor technique when dropping the ball for the try just before half time but he's a teenager, this is what friendlies are for. He learned the hard way not to take a bomb crouched at waist height by taking a whack in the chops. I'm sure he'll remember that the next time one goes up. At least he caught it.

I'm by no means confident he'll make it as a first grade full back but to write him off at this stage of his career is frankly ridiculous.'"

Not sure any-one is writing him off, people are suggesting he is shipped out to learn his trade at a more suitable level.
Being a teenager is no excuse at this level I,m afraid. The positive about being a teenager is we still have plenty of time to develop him.

Quote: Marfa Manu "I think the problem is he has been rushed. I think he is lacking in confidence

Lots of lads in Hull lack confidence in life generally , they are not comfortable being successful , particularly exams.
Parents are either single or sometimes hyper-critical. In particular working class boys (and girls). This is a social commentary and NOT aimed at this lad. However I coached a lot of working class lads at Youth RL and there wasn't a lot of that calm self confidence you need to succeed professionally , which is why a hot bed of RL in Hull usually provides about 1 , yes , 1 decent SL player per school year.

I watched R Lynne and was never really convinced , even at U12s- U15s etc , I may be wrong but at aged 19 , is he ? , then you get a good guide to where they will end up.

We're coming to make some noise!:

Quote: fc baldy "Or because he isnt good enough....he isnt a full-back at all and bloody Lovegrove nearly beat him to a kick to the corner....he needs to go out on a dual contract to get him toughend up'"

Came 3rd over 40 meters in pre-season sprint tests at Rovers. Has always been one of the fastest players we have which is a big reason coaches see him as a centre but his defence has sometimes lead coaches to move him more centrally so play him in the back row or even prop.

Quote: Superbowl Scott "The game changer was Whitings knock on from the kick off at 18-20.

Thought the ref proved why he isn't a SL ref, he wasn't to blame for the loss but he was awful.

I was pretty pleased with the way we played, looked good in attack in parts especially Seymour and McKinnon. The new tackling structure will work well with a more experienced ref, keeping them on there feet for a lot longer than previous seasons then putting them on the ground and working hard to get them on the back. O'Carroll went well aswell for me in attack and defence.

People need to remember that it was our 1st game back, everything isnt going to work straight away.'"

This post says everything I wanted to say just about. The fact they had a game already definately showed. O'Carroll looked very good, thought Lynch was our worst prop today.

Biggest negative was our kicking game, they had position and possession all the first half and we couldn't find a way to change that.

Defence in the first half was good considering the amount we had to do, only one try through their creativity, others from dropped balls. Second half was poor, maybe fatigue?

I think the best time to judge us is 6-8 games into SL but there were some good signs.

Just on Rovers I thought they looked impressive, offloaded a lot, their hookers controlled the ptb and allowed their forwards to make yards around the ruck and their last tackle kicks were very good.

Lyne actually caught the ball and got cleaned out to lose it. Seemed to be doing ok up to then too.

My two penn'orth is that we were rusty, need a fair bit of work, but there were some good signs. I hope the promise from Gentle to reduce the squad for next week will happen. The first team need some hit outs to get them up to speed for the Wire game. Imagine if we'd had a preseason like before where most of the U 20s had played instead and we went into SL underdone. The knives would be out big time.

McKinnon looked a good signing and Seymour seemed ok in patches, but didn't grab it by the scruff of the neck. The pack needs some work but I was pleased with O'Carroll's shirt stint. Ogre and Moa looked ok too. I don't understand the wholesale dissing of Sharp. He looks keen and quick, and now he has Martin inside he should do ok.

As far as Rovers go, they showed the benefit of a couple of games more (or at least some game time across the two games). Hall was Hall, infuriating but dangerous. Dobson is still the danger man and they will need someone to take the pressure off him. Decent performance all told from them and they'll be much happier, but Taylor won't do the hop skip and jump when running the ball back icon_lol.gif

I think we would all love to be proven wrong, however for the last few seasons all we have gotten is a handful of decent games from him, he is far too predictable, and if coaches persist in giving him a shirt just for his name it is all we will get this season too. I think the best chance Rich has of capturing some consistent form is fighting for his shirt, he should be starting on the bench after today and fighting for his shirt.

Quote: Marfa Manu "I think the problem is he has been rushed. I think he is lacking in confidence, clearly he is at ease in the 20s as he performs very well. He needs to develop with the big boys slowly, he needs to learn how to duck and dive, and get stuck in the NL1 will be an ideal place to develop him imo.'"

Agree 100%. Hull have set him back in his development by not letting him grow as a player at his own pace. By way of comparison look at Liam Salter today. You will have seen them both play at junior level Marfa and know how much more highly rated Reece was. Both played their first Academy game in 2009 but Salter didnt play a first team game against Super League opposition till last week. I think its fair to say on todays performance that he is now far ahead of Reece in his development.

So Horne has not had a good game for two seasons... really. You've not been watching then.

Was he poor today, yes however so was Lynch, Hermaia, Yeaman I could go on. Calling for them to be dropped? No thought not.

Gentle has decided that Horne and Seymour are his preferred halfback pairing for now and they will need time to cement a partnership. After just one game I am sure he won't be ditching one of them, thankfully he's the coach and you're not.
